Job summary

United Test and Assembly Center Limited (UTAC) is seeking a Legal Counsel in Singapore to provide practical legal support across commercial and financial agreements, risk assessment and compliance. You will draft, review and negotiate contracts, advise on legal risks and support corporate transactions to enable growth.

The role requires a law degree (JD/Bachelor of Laws), at least 5 years' relevant experience, with in-house exposure preferred. Mandarin skills are advantageous for regional work.

Qualifications

• Law degree or Juris Doctor from a recognised and accredited institution.
• At least 5 years of relevant legal experience in commercial practice.
• In-house experience preferred; cross-border transactions exposure advantageous.
• Excellent English written and verbal communication.
• Able to work with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.
• Maternity cover for 4–6 months with start Dec 2026/Jan 2027.

About the role

The Legal Counsel provides practical legal support to the business by drafting and negotiating commercial and financial agreements, advising on legal risks, supporting key corporate transactions, and ensuring compliance with company policies. Working closely with cross-functional stakeholders, the role helps protect the company's interests while enabling business objectives and growth.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial and financial agreements including non-disclosure agreements, procurement contracts, key commercial sales contracts, joint development agreements, and loan agreements.
• Involvement in key major transactions that the company embarks on from time to time.
• Assist the Company in compliance with its internal policies and risk management goals.
• Respond promptly and effectively to legal requests from various departments, including sales, finance, human resources, procurement and other internal clients.
• Advise on recommended courses of action and legal risks.

Requirements

• Law degree or Juris Doctor from a recognised and accredited institution with strong academic credentials.
• At least 5 years of relevant legal experience, with demonstrated success in commercial legal practice.
• Prior in-house legal experience would be an advantage; preference for a part of this experience to be in-house.
• Experience advising clients on complex commercial transactions.
• Experience supporting multinational or cross-border business operations would be advantageous.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, business judgment and strategic thinking.

• Able to work efficiently with cross-functional teams and manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
