Job summary

Open Government Products (OGP) is building new systems and modernising existing ones to support community programs in Singapore. As Lead Software Engineer, you will shape architecture, drive implementation, and own end-to-end delivery with autonomy, directly engaging agency stakeholders instead of fixed specs.

You will operate with technical judgment in ambiguity, balancing speed with correctness while delivering user-centric solutions that improve public services for Singaporeans.

Qualifications

• Designs systems end-to-end including APIs, data models, failure modes and infra.
• Deep expertise in at least one area (frontend, backend, or cloud) with cross-stack capability.
• Makes deliberate trade-offs between delivery speed, correctness and maintainability and can explain why.
• Experience with production systems at meaningful scale or complexity.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design and system architecture, balancing performance and scalability trade-offs.
• Drive end-to-end implementation of production systems with reliability and operations in mind.
• Make pragmatic architectural decisions and articulate the reasoning behind them.
• Provide technical mentorship and thorough code reviews to raise engineering quality.
• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders up to Director level to clarify requirements and align on solutions.
• Translate evolving problems into well-scoped technical plans and deliverables.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ensure delivery of high-quality, user-centric products that meet real operational needs.
