Job summary

Grab is seeking a senior backend engineer to help design and operate scalable services powering our enterprise APIs. You will collaborate across product, data, and infrastructure teams to deliver robust, observable systems and strong performance.

You will report to the engineering manager in Singapore and contribute to on-call ownership, architectural decisions, and continuous improvement of development processes to support Grab’s growth across Southeast Asia.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience with a track record of delivery across teams.
• Proficiency in Go and building backend microservices.
• Experience with relational (MySQL) and NoSQL (Redis) data stores.
• Hands-on with container orchestration (Kubernetes), service mesh (Istio), and observability tools.

Responsibilities

• Translate product requirements into technical solutions and drive architectural decisions.
• Ensure high-quality code with testing, performance, and reviews.

Get to Know the Role

You will work with other experienced engineers on the team to develop our backend services, ensure the robustness and of the system which provides APIs used by several mobile and web app. You will be reporting to an engineering manager who is based in Singapore. You will work onsite in Singapore.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Lead the design, and operation of scalable, maintainable, and reliable backend services and platform components.
• Convert product and requirements into technical solutions while driving design discussions and architectural trade-offs.
• Oversee the delivery of high-quality code by maintaining standards in testing, performance, observability, and rigorous code reviews.
• Partner with product, business, mobile, web, data, and infrastructure teams to solve end-to-end-user and system challenges.
• Improve service reliability through monitoring, proactive system health fixes, incident response, and root cause analysis.
• Participate in the team's on-call rotation and take active ownership during production incidents.
• Guide engineers through technical coaching, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.
• Identify and guide ongoing improvements in engineering processes, developer productivity, and overall system health.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• You have a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• You have 10+ years of software development experience and a history of delivering successful solutions across teams.
• You have proficiency in Go. You write idiomatic, testable, and maintainable code.
• You have hands-on experience writing and operating backend microservices. You are familiar with HTTP/gRPC, relational databases (MySQL) and NoSQL databases (Redis). You have a working knowledge of container orchestration (Kubernetes), service mesh (Istio), and observability (DataDog, Kibana, Grafana).
• You understand how developers use version control and CI/CD to collaborate on a codebase and ship software (Git, GitLab).
