Job summary

VDL ETG Singapore is seeking a Lead Mechatronic Design Engineer to drive controls and automation for semiconductor equipment. You will own PLC, motion control and test equipment development across the full product lifecycle.

The role requires hands-on leadership, deep expertise in Beckhoff TwinCAT, EtherCAT, Python and MATLAB, and a track record of delivering high-precision automation solutions in a high-tech environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
Around 10 years of experience in industrial automation and machine control.
Strong PLC programming and HMI development experience for industrial equipment (Beckhoff TwinCAT preferable).
Knowledge of EtherCAT-based architectures is advantageous.
Experience with version control systems (Git/Bitbucket).
Proven ability in motion-control systems and high‑precision automation.
Experience with Python, MATLAB, Simulink for analysis and testing.
Experience with semiconductor equipment or high-tech capital equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

Take ownership of controls, automation and motion-control scope in development projects.
Translate requirements into control architectures, software requirements and implementation strategies.
Support early project phases with concept evaluation, scope definition and risk assessment.
Define software architectures, machine sequences, state machines and motion-control concepts.
Lead development of PLC, HMI and motion-control solutions (Beckhoff TwinCAT, Python, MATLAB).
Lead factory automation projects to improve manufacturing efficiency and quality.
Lead design of test, validation and qualification equipment for product qualification.
Verify motion-control performance: accuracy, stability, repeatability, throughput.
Support system integration, commissioning, validation and qualification activities.
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software and system engineers to deliver integrated machines.
Coach engineers in PLC programming, motion control, software engineering and best practices.
Contribute to engineering standards and development methodologies.
