Lead Experience Designer — Immersive Environments

Job summary

HOL is seeking an experienced Experience Design Lead to shape themed environments and destination attractions. You will own the visitor journey, craft narratives for each zone, and define storytelling approaches across physical, multimedia, interactive, and immersive media.

You will develop 3D renders and flythroughs to help clients visualise the space before build, guide teams through design development, and ensure timelines and budget adherence.

Qualifications

• Degree in Architecture, Spatial Design, Experience Design, or a related field.
• 8+ years in experience design and themed environments; last 3 years leading teams and delivering from concept to launch.
• Strong portfolio of themed environments (museums, exhibitions, attractions) with clear role defined.
• Proven experience managing teams across many stakeholders and aligning them to a shared vision.
• Solid understanding of the full project lifecycle from concept to on-site coordination with fabricators and contractors.
• Proficiency in design and 3D visualization tools (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Enscape, Lumion, Twinmotion, Adobe Suite), including AI tools for design, and ability to produce renders and flythroughs.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills to defend design thinking to clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of experience and interpretive design for themed environments and destinations.
• Develop the overall experience plan and narrative for each zone, including visitor journey and key moments.
• Identify storytelling techniques and tools aligned with vision, budget, and challenges.
• Create 3D renders, visualisations, and flythroughs for client buy-in.
• Develop design through to detailed design, ensuring layout and atmosphere support the story.
• Lead projects from concept to successful launch, maintaining timelines and quality.
• Anticipate risks (feasibility, fabrication, budget) and guide the team accordingly.
• Coordinate with content, graphics, multimedia, lighting, and fabrication specialists to stay true to concept.
• Build relationships with clients, present concepts clearly, and develop proposals for new work.
• Mentor junior team members and support the wider team as needed.
