Lead – Drilling Operations
Fugro currently has an opportunity for a Lead – Drilling Operations to join the Marine Site Characterization Operations Team based in Singapore. As a Lead of Fugro Singapore’s expanding Geotechnical Drilling pool and equipment, you will assist in training the drillers. You will ensure that they acquire quality geo‑data and samples and are well versed with the operations of specialized deployment equipment, downhole tools, and seabed data acquisition systems in accordance with industry standards, company procedures and technical specifications.
Your time will be spent onshore and offshore in the field, generally in the Asia Pacific Region, with opportunities to travel globally.
About the Role
- Manage and lead the Kahuna competency framework assessments for all drilling personnel.
- Carry out competency assessments for trainee drillers and drillers, and lead and support the Drilling Supervisor in discussing and advising stakeholders on operational and HSE issues related to drilling equipment & operations.
- Assist the Planning Lead on planning and drive recruitment for drilling personnel.
- Review and implement WIs for drilling equipment at APAC level and ensure they are available on APAC BMS; monitor ongoing geotechnical operations and ensure compliance with procedures, guidelines and corporate standards.
- Optimize and improve execution of Drilling Data, Bore Hole Plans & operations.
- Act as SME for the APAC region for drilling equipment, propose and lead improvements, and serve as a focal point with FGSL on personnel and equipment upgrade / maintenance issues.
- Support the Equipment Resource Manager with evaluation and inspection of geotechnical drilling equipment and associated consumables.
- Work closely with Lead – CPT Operations on improvements to drilling systems that may influence drilling operations.
- Coordinate complex port calls involving Geotech equipment with the mobilization manager / vessel operations superintendent.
- Help enhance career development of personnel by providing guidance and support, ensuring regular appraisals by DS before signing off.
- Liaise with stakeholders and be responsible for preparation, set‑up, testing and maintenance of geotechnical drilling tools, equipment and systems used to acquire data offshore.
- Ensure safe operation of all geotechnical drilling data and sample acquisition equipment.
- Provide remote troubleshooting advice and deliver solutions to keep equipment performing at required levels.
- Operate safely and efficiently, planning procedures and responding appropriately in emergencies.
- Participate in incident investigation and implement corrective actions for incidents involving drilling equipment.
- Assist the Equipment Resource Manager in managing equipment & consumables inventory and resupply for drilling equipment on vessels operating in APAC.
- Maintain a positive, confident, team‑player attitude to support both geotechnical sampling and drilling teams as needed.
About You
- Minimum 10 years of offshore geotechnical drilling and seabed data acquisition experience, including knowledge of Fugro WISON, Fugro SEACALF, APVDB WISON, APVDB ROSON, and equivalent systems.
- Experience and competence in using IT systems and software.
- Proficient written and spoken English communication skills.
- Optimistic, team‑orientated disposition.
- Good physical fitness to meet stringent offshore medical requirements.
- Flexible to travel internationally and go offshore as required.
