Job summary

Alfa Laval is seeking an International Marine Service Engineer to troubleshoot and service Alfa Laval Boiler System components on board vessels, including ballast water treatment, fuel conditioning, and freshwater systems.

The role requires 5+ years of field service experience on ships, fluent English, and strong cross-cultural communication. You will travel internationally, document work, and contribute to SOP improvements while delivering customer-focused support.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform planned service, commissioning, and troubleshooting on Alfa Laval systems on board vessels.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to service jobs, with possible vessel sailings.
  • Communicate effectively with customers in English for clear understanding and satisfaction.
  • Document work performed and ensure service reports are signed by the customer.
  • Identify potential improvements and sales leads; share information with the organization.
  • Provide formal training to peers and customers; help develop training materials.
  • Respond to emergency service requests to minimize vessel downtime.
  • Follow SOPs and safety procedures; contribute to SOP development.

About The Job

Help customers with technical operating issues by carrying out troubleshooting and field service requests submitted through the International Marine Service Desk. The International Service Engineers for Water, Wind & Fuel Systems will provide technical support for the Alfa Laval Boiler System.

Job Description

Follow to all safety procedures and promptly report any unsafe practices or incidents.

  • Perform planned service, commissioning, and troubleshooting for Alfa Laval systems on board vessels, including Ballast Water Treatment (PureBallast), High-Speed Separators (HSS), Fuel Conditioning Modules (FCM), Freshwater Generators (FWG), and other equipment.
  • Prepare for service jobs by following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure efficient execution.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to service jobs on board vessels, with the potential to sail with the vessel if required.
  • Execute maintenance, repair, advanced troubleshooting, commissioning or other related services onboard.
  • Communicate effectively with customers in English to ensure clear understanding and satisfaction.
  • Document all work performed, and conclusions drawn while on board, and ensure that service reports are signed by the customer.
  • Identify potential improvements, including sales leads, and provide advice to customers, passing relevant information to the organization.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide formal training to peers and customers, assist in developing of training material and content.
  • Proactively seek central support through ServiceNow or direct networking contacts and share findings with the team to keep colleagues informed.
  • Be available to respond to emergency service requests, providing timely technical support to minimize vessel downtime.

What You Know
  • High school diploma or higher, bachelor’s degree or similar in Marine Engineering a plus.
  • 5+ years field service experience on board vessels familiarity with industry regulations and standards, as well as marine mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
  • Good cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Experience from working in an international context and across borders with colleagues and customers from other cultures.
  • Good reporting skills. (using MS Word and Excel)
  • Experience of working in CRM systems and planning tools.
  • Understanding of marine separators, ballast treatment systems with electrical, mechanical and automation knowledge.
