Job summary

Sembcorp on Jurong Island is seeking an engineering internship candidate to work with Energy & Utilities and Reliability experts on challenging projects. You will perform mass and energy balance calculations across plant boundaries, monitor discrepancies, and evaluate plant efficiencies to identify improvement opportunities.

The role combines hands-on data analysis with cross-functional collaboration in a power/utilities environment and offers learning across gas and related services.

Qualifications

• Background in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong drive and enthusiasm to actively contribute to day-to-day monitoring tasks.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Positive attitude, eagerness to learn and adaptability to new challenges.
• Comfortable working in a power/utilities plant environment.
• Proficient in MS Word and MS Excel; programming (VBA/MATLAB/Python) or data analysis helpful.

Responsibilities

• Perform mass and energy balance calculations across boundaries such as entire plant, individual systems or sub-systems.
• Monitor and troubleshooting mass balance discrepancies to minimize material loss.
• Evaluate plant efficiencies for Cogeneration Power Plant and Battery Energy Storage Systems to identify improvement avenues.
• Monitor the carbon emissions from fuel combustion in thermal energy assets and evaluate impact to environment.
• Apply theoretical knowledge from thermodynamics and fluid mechanics to support optimization projects for systems/equipment such as gas turbines, heat exchangers & pumps.
• Review equipment failure data to identify root causes and eliminate repeated failures.
• Conduct reliability data analysis for tracking asset's KPIs (MTBF, MTBR) and support reliability data management and reporting.
