Job summary

Varel Singapore, part of the Tribute Portfolio by Marriott, is seeking a hands-on Handyman to maintain hotel facilities, guest rooms, and public areas in a safe, functional, and presentable condition.

You will respond to maintenance requests, carry out general repairs across plumbing, carpentry, painting, tiling, and furniture, and support the Engineering team to keep the property in top condition for guests and colleagues.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as Handyman or similar role in hotel/hospitality.
• Practical knowledge of general building maintenance incl. plumbing, carpentry, painting.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Attention to detail and high workmanship standards.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Reliable, proactive, service‑oriented.
• Comfortable lifting, bending, and climbing.
• Willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance, repair, and upkeep works throughout guest rooms, public areas, back‑of‑house areas, and other hotel facilities
• Attend promptly to maintenance requests and work orders from hotel departments and guests
• Perform basic repairs involving plumbing, carpentry, painting, tiling, furniture, fixtures, doors, locks, and other general building components
• Conduct routine inspections of hotel facilities and identify defects, damage, or potential maintenance issues
• Repair or replace damaged fixtures, fittings, furniture, hardware, and other items as required
• Assist with preventive maintenance programmes to ensure equipment, facilities, and building components remain in good working condition
• Support the Engineering team with minor electrical, mechanical, and building maintenance tasks within the appropriate scope of work
• Respond promptly to urgent maintenance issues and assist with troubleshooting and rectification
• Support room maintenance and preparation, including repairs required before rooms are released for occupancy
• Assist with hotel renovations, refurbishment projects, furniture installation, and other improvement works

About the role

As a Handyman, you will play an important role in ensuring our hotel facilities, guest rooms, and public areas are maintained in a safe, functional, and presentable condition. Working closely with the Engineering and Operations teams, you will respond promptly to maintenance requests, carry out general repairs, and help maintain the high standards expected by our guests. Your practical skills, attention to detail, and proactive approach will contribute to a comfortable, safe, and well‑maintained environment for both guests and colleagues.

About you

• Previous experience as a Handyman, Maintenance Technician, General Technician, or in a similar role, preferably within a hotel or hospitality environment

• Practical knowledge of general building maintenance, including basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, tiling, and furniture repairs

• Good troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills

• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of workmanship

• Able to work independently and effectively as part of a team

• Good communication and interpersonal skills

• Reliable, responsible, and proactive with a strong service‑oriented attitude

• Comfortable with lifting, bending, climbing, and working in different areas of the property

• Able to work safely at heights where required and in accordance with established safety procedures

• Willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required
