Our client is an established company operating within the waste management and environmental services industry, providing waste collection, disposal, recycling, and related environmental solutions. The company is focused on delivering safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations while maintaining strong customer service and sustainable business growth.

We are seeking an experienced General Manager with a strong background in waste management and operations to oversee the overall business performance, operational efficiency, financial management, regulatory compliance, and development of the organisation.

Position Objective

The General Manager will be responsible for the overall management and performance of waste management operations, including collection, transportation, processing, disposal, recycling, environmental compliance, and customer service.

The role will lead multiple departments and drive operational excellence, profitability, safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the waste management facility and ensure smooth and efficient business operations.

• Develop and implement effective processes for waste collection, transportation, processing, disposal, and recycling.

• Develop and execute long-term business strategies, operational plans, policies, and procedures.

• Identify opportunities for business growth, cost optimisation, operational efficiency, and revenue generation.

• Establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure operational and business performance.

• Manage budgets, control operating expenses, and optimise manpower, equipment, and other resources.

• Monitor overall financial performance and implement appropriate cost-control measures.

• Prepare and review financial reports, operational reports, budgets, and forecasts for senior management.

• Ensure all waste handling, treatment, recycling, and disposal activities comply with relevant environmental regulations and statutory requirements.

• Drive best practices in waste reduction, recycling, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.

• Foster a strong culture of safety, compliance, quality, and continuous improvement.

• Establish performance objectives and conduct regular performance reviews for department heads and employees.

• Conduct regular operational inspections, quality checks, and internal audits.

• Investigate operational and safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement appropriate corrective actions.

• Promote and enforce a safety-first culture across all departments.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, addressing enquiries, feedback, and service concerns professionally and promptly.

• Lead and manage department heads and employees, fostering a positive, collaborative, and productive working environment.

• Oversee the effective operation and coordination of key functions, including Operations/Production, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service.

• Ensure cross-functional teams work effectively towards the organisation's operational and commercial objectives.

• Perform other ad hoc duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline. A Master's Degree will be an advantage.

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the waste management or environmental services industry, with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership capacity.

• Relevant waste management industry experience is essential.

• Strong knowledge of waste management operations, disposal methods, recycling processes, and environmental requirements.

• Good understanding of relevant environmental regulations, safety requirements, and regulatory compliance.

• Strong experience in operations management, budgeting, financial management, and cost control.

• Able to lead and manage multiple departments and cross-functional teams.

• Able to develop and execute strategic plans while managing day-to-day operational requirements.

• Certification in waste management, environmental management, or a related field will be an advantage.

• Possess a valid driving licence and own a car for business and operational requirements.

Additional Information

• Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; Saturday, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

• Working Arrangement: 5.5-day work week
