Full-Stack Software Engineer — Java/Spring & React

Job summary

Rakuten is seeking a Software Engineer in Singapore to design, develop and improve AI-powered experiences across web applications. You will work with a cross-functional team on full-stack projects using Java, Spring Boot and React.

You will contribute to backend APIs, frontend interfaces, database solutions and production support, while collaborating with Product Managers, Data Scientists and ML Engineers to deliver scalable, reliable software.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience in Java and Spring Boot.
• Strong hands-on experience in React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and web applications.
• Good understanding of software engineering fundamentals, OO programming and design patterns.
• Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL and performance tuning.
• Familiarity with Git and modern software development practices.
• Experience with unit/integration testing frameworks such as JUnit or Mockito.
• Good understanding of HTTP, REST, JSON, HTML and CSS.
• Basic secure coding practices and application security awareness.
• Experience in an Agile/DevOps environment.
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Ability to write design docs, API specs and diagrams.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication and collaboration in multicultural teams.
• Proactive ownership attitude.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain scalable full-stack web applications using Java, Spring Boot and React.
• Develop backend REST APIs and microservices using Spring Boot and related Java tech.
• Develop responsive frontend applications using React and TypeScript.
• Work across the full software development lifecycle from design to production support.
• Design and implement database solutions using relational and NoSQL concepts.
• Understand business requirements and propose technical improvements.
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code following best practices.
• Develop unit, integration and API tests with appropriate frameworks.
• Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions.
• Create technical docs including design docs, API specs and diagrams.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Data Scientists and ML Engineers for AI features.
• Monitor and provide first-level production support for apps/services.
• Continuously adopt technologies to improve performance and reliability.
