Job summary

Activate is developing Scanvas, a next-generation AI-powered platform for digitising national examination scripts, in Singapore. You will join as a Software Engineer building the web platform and a desktop ScanController, interfacing with scanners and cloud services under high throughput demand.

You will work on AI-powered template generation, zone detection, and OCR while ensuring robust integration with hardware and government-grade security, in a fast-paced modernisation effort.

Qualifications

• Solid full-stack experience — web frontend, backend APIs, and relational databases.
• Experience building desktop applications (native or Electron).
• Experience integrating AI/ML APIs into production systems.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, containers, and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the Scanvas web platform — API routes, background job queues, database models, and the template editor for OMR zones.
• Build and maintain the ScanController desktop application — interface between scan-room operators, hardware, and cloud backend.
• Integrate hardware: scanner SDKs, driver interfaces, and scan-capture pipelines.
• Integrate AI services: LLMs for template generation, CV for zone detection, and OCR for handwritten/text responses.
• Design for throughput with queues, rate limits, and scalable storage; collaborate with PM/ops; maintain engineering rigour.
