Job summary

IROC is building a World Model of Human Biology. We seek a Founding Computational Biologist to translate biological knowledge into computational representations and datasets, defining how our AI systems learn and predict across biological scales.

You’ll work with founders to build the World Model foundations and establish evaluation benchmarks that drive scientific discovery. You will collaborate closely with AI engineers to turn biological questions into data and modeling problems, shaping the

Qualifications

• PhD in computational biology, systems biology, bioinformatics, quantitative biology, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of human biology and biological systems, with the ability to reason about mechanisms and causality.
• Strong quantitative and computational skills, including Python.
• Excellent scientific judgment and the ability to critically evaluate evidence and model outputs.
• Ability to turn ambiguous scientific questions into concrete computational problems.
• Highly autonomous, with strong ownership and comfort working without an established playbook.
• Experience working across computation and AI.

Responsibilities

• Translate biological mechanisms and hypotheses into computational representations.
• Build and refine structured models of human biology across biological scales.
• Integrate scientific literature, biological databases, and experimental data.
• Identify important relationships, mechanisms, gaps, and inconsistencies in biological knowledge.
• Define biological benchmarks and evaluation frameworks for AI models.
• Critically assess model outputs for biological validity and scientific relevance.
• Formulate hypotheses and identify opportunities for scientific discovery.
