Job description

Help build the computational model of human biology.

IROC is building a World Model of Human Biology: a computational model designed to capture howbiological systems work, change, and respond to perturbations.

We combine biological knowledge, experimental data, and AI to build models that can help us understandbiology, make predictions, and accelerate scientific discovery.

The foundations are in place. Now we're looking for a Founding Computational Biologist to build on themand shape what the World Model learns, represents, and predicts.

The role

You'll work directly with IROC's scientific and technical founders to build the biological foundations ofthe World Model.

You will turn complex biological knowledge into computational representations, datasets, hypotheses, andevaluation frameworks, and help determine what our AI systems should learn and predict.

This is not a traditional bioinformatics role. You'll help define how human biology is representedcomputationally and how we evaluate whether an AI model actually understands it.

What you'll do
  • Translate biological mechanisms and hypotheses into computational representations.
  • Build and refine structured models of human biology across biological scales.
  • Integrate scientific literature, biological databases, and experimental data.
  • Identify important relationships, mechanisms, gaps, and inconsistencies in biological knowledge.
  • Define biological benchmarks and evaluation frameworks for AI models.
  • Critically assess model outputs for biological validity and scientific relevance.
  • Formulate hypotheses and identify opportunities for scientific discovery.
  • Work closely with AI engineers to turn biological questions into data and modeling problems.
What we're looking for

We're looking for an exceptional scientist with deep biological expertise, strong quantitative thinking, and the curiosity to work at the frontier of AI and biology.

Must have:
  • PhD in computational biology, systems biology, bioinformatics, quantitative biology, or a related field, or equivalent advanced scientific training.
  • Strong knowledge of human biology and biological systems, with the ability to reason about mechanisms, relationships, and causality.
  • Strong quantitative and computational skills, including Python.
  • Excellent scientific judgment and the ability to critically evaluate evidence, hypotheses, and model outputs.
  • Ability to turn ambiguous scientific questions into concrete computational problems.
  • Highly autonomous, with strong ownership and comfort working without an established playbook.
  • Experience working across computation and AI.
Nice to have:
  • Experience working across biology, physiology at the bench is a strong plus.
  • Exceptional candidates with backgrounds in biology, medicine, MD/PhD, or quantitative sciences combined with substantial computational experience are encouraged to apply.

We care more about scientific depth, quantitative thinking, and problem-solving ability than a particular degree or technology stack.

Why IROC

Join a fast-paced, ambitious founding team working on a problem with the potential for enormousscientific impact.

You'll have:

  • A key role in shaping the biological foundations of our World Model.
  • The opportunity to define how AI represents and reasons about human biology from the ground up.
  • Close collaboration with AI engineers, scientists, and founders.
  • The chance to work on a problem where solving the right scientific and technical challenges could have a huge impact on how we understand human biology and develop new approaches to healthcare.
  • A competitive salary and package.

Right now, we are at StationF!

We're moving fast, aiming high, and tackling problems that don't have obvious answers.

If you want to work on biology at the level of fundamental representation — not just analysis— we'd love to hear from you.
