This role is critical to ensuring the safety, reliability, resilience, and efficiency of mechanical infrastructure, including cleanroom and utility systems. The successful candidate will act as a site‑level technical authority, partnering closely with cross‑functional teams to align mechanical strategies with site, corporate, and departmental goals. The Principal Mechanical Engineer is expected to deliver visible impact at the program and project level, drive innovation through advanced technologies and digital tools, and actively mentor and develop engineering talent, strengthening both technical depth and leadership capability within the organization.

Job Responsibilities
  • Champion environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance across all mechanical operations, ensuring adherence to corporate policies, local regulations, and site SOPs.
  • Lead risk assessments, FMEA, and hazard mitigation activities to eliminate single points of failure and enhance system resilience.
  • Promote a strong culture of operational discipline, safe work practices, and quality execution.
  • Lead the design, commissioning, operation, and optimization of Facilities mechanical systems, including but not limited to:
    • Cleanroom HVAC and air systems
    • Chilled water, heating water, and process cooling water (PCW)
    • Exhaust and abatement systems (scrubbers)
    • Chillers, boilers, cooling towers
    • Compressed air, vacuum, and general HVAC systems
    • Fire protection and life safety mechanical systems
  • Provide expert‑level technical support for complex operational issues and production interruptions, serving as the escalation point for critical system events.
  • Lead root cause investigations using structured problem‑solving methodologies (8D, 5‑Why, data‑driven analysis).
  • Conduct post‑incident reviews and drive corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence and improve long‑term reliability.
  • Drive site‑wide system reliability improvement initiatives to maximize equipment uptime and minimize production risk.
  • Oversee capacity tracking and long‑range planning for mechanical systems to support fab growth, technology transitions, and max‑out scenarios.
  • Lead cleanroom and utility system expansion projects, from concept through execution, to meet future manufacturing tool demands.
  • Review and validate scope, schedule, cost estimates, and technical designs for infrastructure upgrades.
  • Provide engineering oversight during design, construction, and commissioning phases, ensuring safe and robust system delivery.
  • Drive strategic initiatives focused on energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction, aligning with Micron sustainability and MEES objectives.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement advanced mechanical technologies that deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, cost, and environmental performance.
  • Spearhead the deployment of SMART Facilities initiatives, including predictive maintenance, advanced analytics, and system automation, in collaboration with controls and digital teams.
  • Champion the use of AI, digital twins, and data‑driven tools to improve system intelligence, maintenance effectiveness, and team productivity.
  • Enable smart enablement for project tracking, maintenance overviews, and budget visibility.
  • Integrate AI‑assisted tools and insights into daily work to improve efficiency, quality or effectiveness, exercising sound judgment and complying with organizational standards and legal requirements.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, testing, and sharing AI‑enabled enhancements within one’s scope of work.
  • Mentor and develop mechanical engineers and technicians through structured training, coaching, and hands‑on site engagement.
  • Foster technical excellence, critical thinking, and leadership capability within the mechanical engineering team.
  • Support succession planning and capability building for long‑term organizational strength.
  • Ensure execution and continuous improvement of preventive and corrective maintenance programs to achieve optimal system performance and uptime.
  • Oversee spare parts and consumables strategy, ensuring availability and cost effectiveness.
  • Support procurement activities using ARIBA / SAP, including technical reviews for services and materials related to Facilities mechanical systems.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • Minimum 8–10 years of experience in Facilities Mechanical Engineering within semiconductor or advanced manufacturing environments.
  • Proven experience leading complex mechanical systems, site expansions, and reliability improvement programs.
  • Deep expertise in semiconductor Facilities Mechanical and Process Systems, including cleanroom HVAC, chilled water, PCW, exhaust, abatement, compressed air, vacuum, and fire protection systems.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance practices, system installation, commissioning, and lifecycle management.
  • Proficiency in structured problem‑solving and quality tools such as 8D, 5‑Why, and data analysis methodologies.
  • Familiarity with SMART Facilities, predictive maintenance, and sustainability initiatives is highly advantageous.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills, with ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills; able to clearly articulate complex technical concepts.
