Job summary

Careers @ Focal Search is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers, naval architects, designers and drafters in advanced aluminum shipbuilding projects in Singapore. The role oversees the technical design, weight control, inclining experiments and sea trial protocols while ensuring contractual compliance, safety and project success.

You will collaborate with senior management, coordinate with OEMs and classification societies, and drive design improvements in line with industry

Qualifications

• Formal training in Mechanical or Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture.
• Track record of success in using Aluminum in shipbuilding.
• At least seven years as Naval Architect or Senior Design Engineer.
• At least five years in engineering design department management.
• Excellent dispute resolution and negotiating abilities.
• Solid understanding of flag regulations and classification society rules.

Responsibilities

Job description

This position's objective is to provide engineering management for the engineering firm, oversight of technical engineering solutions, guaranteeing the safety and technical viability of solutions,affordable and feasible to construct.

In charge of overseeing and directing the technical facets of advanced aluminum shipbuilding projects andensuring that the fulfillment of contractual obligations, client satisfaction, safety, andtime on budget outcomes.

Task Management

• Managing a team that includes engineers, naval architects, designers, and drafters.
• Offer technical and design expertise.
• Scheduling design deliverables to support the project schedule.
• Ensure that vessel designs meet all contractual requirements and specifications.
• Oversee the technical review process for the procurement of all major equipment and materials.
• Supervision of interactions with classification societies, flag states, and any other regulatory bodies.
• Responsible for successfully resolving technical issues with OEMs, clients, classification societies, and flag states.
• Technical expert in weight management and control throughout the vessel construction process.
• Technical expert in inclining experiments and lightship surveys.
• Technical Expert for Sea Trial Protocols, including loading conditions.
• Collaborate closely with the Senior Management Group, Engineering, and General Manager.
• High level contractual, negotiation and dispute resolution.
• Follow and update the company's design guidelines.
• Make ongoing design improvements that are pertinent to industry standards.

Interpersonal Management

• Effective communication entails listening intently, communicating ideas clearly, and offering helpful criticism to employees at all levels.
• Establish rapport and trust by being sincere, courteous, and trustworthy.
• Maintain communication with shipyard personnel and management to guaranty that product performance aligns with the organization's objectives.

• When negotiating on the company's behalf, be willing to make reasonable concessions.
• Create a robust network of contacts, subcontractors, and industry suppliers.

InformationManagement

• Educate internal and external stakeholders and gain a thorough understanding of the performance and specifications of vessels and products.
• Gain a thorough understanding of the applicable classification and survey authority rules and regulations that impact our products' performance and quality.
• In charge of engineering management reporting and documentation.
• Gain a thorough understanding of the scope and impact of various departments, projects, and business areas.
• Help the project manager calculate how decisions will affect other areas.

Requirements:

• Formal training in Mechanical or Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture.
• A track record of success in using Aluminum in the Shipbuilding sector.
• At least seven years of experience as a Naval Architect or Senior Design Engineer.
• At least five years of engineering design department management experience.
