Job summary

Sumitomo Drive Technologies Asia Pacific is seeking an experienced Automation/Control System Engineer to join our engineering team in Singapore. The role covers design, development, programming, testing and commissioning of electrical control systems, MCCs, PLC and HMI/SCADA solutions for industrial and infrastructure projects across Singapore and Southeast Asia.

Requires 5–10 years in electrical control system design, proven PLC/VFD/instrumentation experience, knowledge of IEC standards,

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics or Automation.
• 5–10 years of relevant experience in electrical control system design and industrial automation.
• Experience with PLC-based control systems, VFDs, instrumentation and industrial networking.
• Knowledge of IEC/SS electrical standards and safety requirements.
• Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and HVAC controls.
• Willingness to travel within Singapore and SE Asia.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical control systems, MCCs, VFD panels, PLC and HMI/SCADA.
• Configure industrial networks: Modbus, Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, BACnet, MQTT.
• Produce diagrams, layouts, cable schedules and I/O lists using AutoCAD Electrical.
• Conduct FAT, SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting and performance optimization.
• Liaise with customers, consultants, contractors and vendors; provide support and training.

Job description

We are a global leading provider in power transmission and control solutions. We are seeking an experienced and hands‑on Automation/Control System Engineer to join our growing engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, programming, testing, and commissioning of Electrical Control Systems, Motor Control Centers (MCCs), PLC, HMI/SCADA systems, and Building Automation Solutions (BAS) for industrial and infrastructure projects across Singapore and the Southeast Asia region. The role involves close collaboration with customers, project managers, system integrators, and suppliers from project concept through commissioning and after‑sales support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop electrical control systems, MCCs, VFD panels, PLC systems, HMI/SCADA systems, power distribution equipment and instrumentation systems.
• Develop PLC, HMI and SCADA applications for industrial and building automation systems.
• Configure industrial communication networks including Modbus, Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, BACnet and MQTT.
• Perform equipment selection, sizing calculations and preparation of technical specifications.
• Produce single-line diagrams, control schematics, panel layouts, cable schedules, I/O lists and functional specifications using AutoCAD Electrical or Autodesk AutoCAD.
• Conduct FAT, SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting and performance optimization.
• Liaise with customers, consultants, contractors and vendors regarding project requirements.
• Provide technical support, training and documentation.

Requirements:

• Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering or Trade based equivalent.
• Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience in electrical control system design and industrial automation projects.
• Proven experience in PLC-based control systems, VFDs, instrumentation and industrial networking.
• Strong knowledge of IEC Standards, Singapore Standards (SS) and electrical safety requirements.
• Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS), HVAC controls and Energy Management Systems preferred.
• Experience in water and wastewater treatment plants, food and beverage manufacturing, and material handling systems preferred.
• LEW license (Singapore) and/or PMP certification advantageous.
• Good communication, project management and troubleshooting skills.
• Willingness to travel within Singapore and Southeast Asia.
