Job summary

BIT in Singapore seeks a Director of Software Engineering to lead our backend engineering and own the architecture of core systems. You will build a high‑caliber team that ships reliably with strong engineering leadership.

You will define roadmaps for system quality, reduce technical debt, and apply AI pragmatically to raise delivery quality and efficiency while collaborating with product, operations, and risk teams.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience, including 3+ years leading engineering teams.
• Expert in Golang or Rust, with hands-on experience building large-scale applications.
• Deep understanding of MySQL transaction isolation levels and patterns.
• Familiarity with AWS services (EC2, EBS, S3, RDS, VPC, ELB).
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems with observability.
• Professional Mandarin for technical discussions and management communication; written English proficient.
• Eligible to work in Singapore or for an Employment Pass.

Director of Software Engineering

About the Role

We are looking for a Director of Software Engineering to lead our backend engineering organization in Singapore. You will own the architecture of our core systems and build a team that ships reliably and with high quality - combining deep technical judgment with strong engineering leadership.

What You'll Do

Technical Direction

• Own the overall architecture and technology choices for the systems under your remit, with final accountability for their reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Lead design and review of critical modules, and drive high-complexity or high-risk initiatives with well-controlled, executable plans.
• Define the roadmap for system quality - including technical debt reduction, reusable middleware and libraries, and integration testing infrastructure.

Team Leadership

• Set goals, run performance reviews, and lead hiring and development across the engineering teams in your department.
• Understand needs across business, product, operations, and risk, and allocate engineering resources accordingly.
• Establish engineering processes and standards built for the AI era, and lead the team in applying AI pragmatically to raise delivery quality and efficiency.

We're Looking For

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience, including 3+ years leading engineering teams.
• Expert in Golang or Rust, with hands-on experience building and maintaining large-scale applications. Comfortable with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, and SQL.
• Deep understanding of MySQL transaction isolation levels and their common patterns in real-world application development.
• Familiarity with standard cloud services, AWS in particular - EC2, EBS, S3, RDS, VPC, ELB, etc.
• Extensive experience designing, operating, and evolving distributed systems, with a deep understanding of their complexity across transactional semantics, data consistency, testability, and observability - and proven methods for managing it.
• Professional working proficiency in Mandarin for technical discussion and management communication, as the team collaborates primarily in Mandarin; proficient in written English.
• Eligible to work in Singapore, or eligible for an Employment Pass.

Nice to Have

• Experience building financial services such as asset management, trading, or payments, with familiarity in clearing and settlement, risk management, and double-entry bookkeeping.
• Familiarity with derivatives, structured products, or DeFi products.
• Experience managing cross-regional or remote teams.
