Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Director, Business Development APAC to proactively research, identify and evaluate potential targets consistent with Abbott’s strategies and drive sustainable growth in the APAC region.

You will lead due diligence, develop deal structures, negotiate and close transactions, while coordinating cross-functional teams and engaging senior leadership. This APAC role is Singapore-based with direct interaction with executives and external partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA preferred in Finance, Accounting or Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • 5+ years of M&A experience including acquisitions and deal closing.
  • 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong understanding of product development, regulatory and commercialization processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership, timely result delivery and commitment.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Strong networking to engage industry decision-makers.

The Opportunity

As the Director, Business Development APAC, you will proactively research, identify and evaluate potential company, product and technology targets that are consistent with Abbott’s strategies and drive sustainable growth for the Company.

What You’ll Do

Proactively research, identify and evaluate potential company, product and technology targets that are consistent with Abbott’s strategies and drive sustainable growth for the Company.

Lead the assessment and due diligence activities including:

  • 1) managing the interactions with external parties,
  • 2) overseeing the evaluation process and timeline and
  • 3) developing timely recommendations and proposals for senior management consideration based on thorough and complete technical and commercial assessments.

Develop effective deal structures, risk mitigation and negotiating strategies to ensure alignment with Company objectives.

Lead, negotiate and close a variety of transactions, from straightforward intellectual property rights agreements to complex acquisitions.

Effectively manage external stakeholders, including CEOs, and internal stakeholders, including Senior Management and C-suite executives, while preparing opportunity assessments for executive-level audiences.

Effectively lead cross‑functional support teams including marketing, R&D, clinical, regulatory and operations through the due diligence process on opportunities.

Lead alliance management for existing partnerships.

Deliver oral and written presentations to senior management to seek approval for new opportunities.

Lead assessments of key markets, companies and technologies, serving as a subject matter expert for the business segments supported.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Preference for Finance, Accounting or a Technical discipline (e.g., Pharmaceutical Sciences) with a Master of Business Administration.
  • 5+ years of M&A experience, including working on acquisitions, managing opportunity assessments, negotiating and successfully closing deals.
  • 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong understanding of product development, regulatory and commercialization processes for evaluating target companies and products.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to drive projects, deliver timely results and follow through on commitments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate business strategies and capabilities internally and externally, present recommendations clearly and concisely, and promote cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Strong networking skills with the ability to engage a broad range of industry decision‑makers and stay informed of emerging opportunities.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and influencing skills to creatively solve problems with partner companies and successfully close deals.
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills to evaluate business opportunities and financial performance.
