Job description

We're seeking a future team member for the role of Director, AI Engineer to join our APAC AI Hub team. This role is located in Singapore and will partner with regional teams across APAC and the global AI Hub.

This is a senior technical leadership opportunity for an experienced, hands‑on AI engineer who can establish technical direction, lead the development of complex enterprise AI capabilities, and translate emerging AI technologies into secure, scalable, and production‑ready solutions. The role will help expand AI engineering capability in APAC while ensuring regional solutions align with BNY’s global platforms, architecture, governance, and control standards.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

  • Set technical direction and influence the architecture, design, and implementation of complex AI products, platform capabilities, and reusable engineering components across APAC.
  • Lead the end‑to‑end development of production‑grade solutions using large language models, retrieval‑augmented generation, agentic systems, model integrations, and related applied AI technologies.
  • Advance our enterprise AI platform and other AI Hub capabilities by developing scalable services, APIs, integrations, context pipelines, developer tools, and enterprise application components.
  • Translate complex regional business requirements and technical opportunities into sustainable architectures that align with global AI Hub strategy and enterprise standards.
  • Establish and promote engineering practices for AI evaluation, MLOps/LLMOps, CI/CD, automated testing, security, privacy, observability, reliability, and responsible AI adoption.
  • Serve as a senior technical authority for highly complex architecture, integration, performance, and production issues that may affect critical business services.
  • Partner with Product, Architecture, AI Governance, Risk, Compliance, Cybersecurity, and regional business teams to ensure AI solutions are valuable, controlled, resilient, and appropriate for enterprise use.
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and define practical implementation strategies that improve engineering productivity, accelerate delivery, and support reusable capabilities across the firm.
  • Mentor engineers, strengthen technical standards, and help grow AI engineering capability across the APAC AI Hub and partner teams.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience, is required. An advanced degree is beneficial.
  • Advanced experience, preferably 12+ years, in applied AI/ML, software engineering, platform engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing technical direction and building scalable, production‑grade AI products, platforms, or shared enterprise capabilities.
  • Deep understanding of modern AI engineering, including LLMs, agentic systems, retrieval‑augmented generation, prompt engineering, session context management, fine‑tuning approaches, model evaluation, guardrails, and MLOps/LLMOps.
  • Extensive software and platform engineering experience across backend services, APIs, distributed systems, integrations, cloud‑native architectures, containers, and automated delivery pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture, security, privacy, operational resilience, software quality, technical‑debt management, and responsible AI practices.
  • Ability to resolve highly complex technical problems, influence senior stakeholders, and communicate technical strategies clearly to engineering, product, risk, and business audiences.
  • Experience working across regional and global teams in a matrixed organization located in various time‑zones; experience in banking, financial services, or another regulated industry is strongly preferred.
