Job summary

Institute of Mental Health (IMH) in Singapore is seeking a Senior Dietitian to lead nutrition care across inpatient and outpatient services. The role emphasizes independent medical nutrition therapy, high standards of care, and collaboration with foodservice for therapeutic diets.

The Senior Dietitian will design protocols, drive quality improvement, and supervise junior dietitians while contributing to evidence-based practice and education within IMH’s Allied Health Services.

Qualifications

• Must have MSc Nutrition and Dietetics or BSc Nutrition and Dietetics or Postgraduate diploma in Dietetics or MOH-recognised qualifications in Singapore.
• Internship in a hospital for 3–6 months for Dietitian role; Senior Dietitian requires 2+ years’ experience and competencies.
• Proficiency in English; Mandarin, Malay or Tamil skills are advantageous.
• Experience with nutrition care plans in inpatient and outpatient settings, and ability to lead quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical nutrition therapy in inpatient and outpatient settings independently.
• Maintain standards of care and assist in managing dietetic services.
• Liaise with Foodservice for healthy meals and therapeutic diets.
• Contribute to evidence-based practice, training, and research where applicable.
• Senior Dietitians: design and enhance protocols, lead quality improvement, audits, and staff mentorship.

Job Description:

Nutrition plays a vital role in supporting mental health recovery and overall wellbeing. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in mental health care while contributing to Singapore’s leading tertiary psychiatric institution. The opportunity to advance patient outcomes and system-level practice will help define and grow nutrition’s role in mental health recovery.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Provide appropriate medical nutrition therapy in both inpatient and outpatient services independently

1. Maintain consistent standards of care and assist to manage dietetic services effectively
2. Liaise with Foodservice on provision of healthy & quality meals and therapeutic diet requirements
3. Contribute to evidence‑based practice, training & education, and research where applicable

For Senior Dietitians, they are also expected to:

1. Design and enhance established protocols and standards to achieve departmental goals
2. Lead and support quality improvement initiatives, service development, and clinical audits
3. Provide supervision, mentorship, and training to junior dietitians and students

Job Requirements:

Education

• MSc Nutrition and Dietetics; or
• BSc Nutrition and Dietetics/ Dietetics; or
• Postgraduate diploma in Dietetics; or
• Qualifications recognised by Ministry of Health, Singapore

Experience

Dietitian

• Must have completed an internship programme in a hospital, preferably 3 to 6 months’ duration

Senior Dietitian

• Must have completed an internship programme in a hospital, preferably 3 to 6 months’ duration
• At least more than 2 years’ experience as a Dietitian and demonstrate competencies expected of this job grade
• Postgraduate certification in a relevant and specialised discipline or clinical attachment in area of specialisation preferred

Competency

• Proficiency in written/ spoken English, fluent in spoken Mandarin, Malay or Tamil
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder‑engagement skills
• Effective problem solving, planning and organizing skills
