JOB PURPOSE

The role of the Senior Dietitian is to co-ordinate and provide dietetic services and health promoting education to patients, staff and community at large

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific
Clinical Dietetics

Clinical Dietetics (refer to Appendix A for more details)

  1. Educate clients with evidence based nutritional principles and applied dietetics
  2. Maintain and / or improve the nutritional status of in-patients.
  3. Assist to evaluate hospital food supply and to suggest healthier food options.
  4. Communicate effectively patient's nutritional care information for seamless service during hospitalisation and after discharge
Administration
  1. Responsible to provide clinical function of the department to inpatients and outpatients.
  2. Design clinical pathways and procedures for monitoring nutritional issues.
  3. Coordinate the planning and organization of resources to achieve effective nutritional care policy in allocated wards and dietetics specialties.
  4. Assist Chief Dietitian in the coordination and evaluation of nutrition related outreach programmes.
  5. Assist Chief Dietitian in supervising and monitoring the performance of departmental dietitians, dietetic interns and polytechnic student attachments.
  6. Design and enhance established protocols and standards to achieve departmental goals.
  7. Participate in quality service related activities (system procedures) pertaining to hospital and department - ISO 9002, ISO 14000, Six-Sigma Processes, People Developer Standards, Balanced Score Card, Joint Commission International Accreditation, Competency Certification with recognised dietetic organisations.
Food service
  1. Assist Foodservice Manager to train foodservice staff in nutrition related issues.
  2. Liaise with Foodservice colleagues on therapeutic diet requirements and meal delivery
  3. Coordinate the evaluation of new dietetic products for clinical use and foodservice use - enteral formula, supplementary foods, thickening agents, and neutraceuticals.
Financial Management
  1. Maintain records of patient-related statistics for patient charging system.
  2. Collate the monthly statistics of clinical dietitians' workload
  3. Assist in monitoring the use and cost of prescribed dietetic products - enteral formula, supplementary foods, thickening agents, and neutraceuticals.
  4. Contain costs / expenditure within departmental budget
Personal Management
  1. Observe the WH Basics and values
  2. Observe patient confidentiality appropriately
  3. Support actively the local dietetic professional body (Singapore Nutrition & Dietetic Association)
  4. Support actively at least one non-profitable organisation as a volunteer Dietitian
  5. Communication effectively (focused, flexible, dynamic, sensitive) with hospital, colleagues and non-WHC dietitians / nutritionists
  6. Uphold dietetic professionalism by maintaining optimum physical health
Education & Research
  1. Interpret, evaluate and utilise current research related to nutritional care in dietetic specialties
  2. Contribute and review regularly nutrition-related and health promoting Materials available for internal and public access
  3. In-house and external educational materials
  4. Layman publications
  5. Newspapers
  6. Intranet and Internet
  7. Participate in the training programmes allied to nutrition and clinical dietetics, both inter-and intra-department
  8. Initiate, coordinate and participate in nutrition-worthy projects within department or with other healthcare teams where appropriate
Other Duties
  1. Participate in training programmes as may be required
  2. Participate in non-dietetic activities supported by the hospital as may be required - commemorative functions, gardening, staff health screening, book review, etc.
  3. Support good working relationship and team spirit with colleagues
  4. Cover the duties of department colleagues as may be required
  5. Undertake any other duties as assigned by the HOD (Dietetics)
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education / Training / Experience
  1. Degree holder of nutrition and dietetics from PSC recognized university.
  2. Preferably with minimum 6 years relevant working experience in clinical dietetics.
  3. Dietetic internship must be a minimum of 6 months and able to qualify for practicing license or dietitian registration with the national dietitian association of the country.
Professional License
  1. Accredited Dietitian of Singapore with Singapore Nutrition & Dietetics Association.
Attributes
  1. Proficiency in written / spoken English, fluent in spoken Mandarin, Malay or Tamil.
  2. Proven ability to work efficiently and independently.
  3. Competent in MS Office and Social Media.
