Design Manager - Experience
About the Role
This role requires prior experience as a Design Manager working on robotic systems/products or with end-to-end robotics product experience.
Location: Singapore - St James Power Station Headquarters. Job Family: Design Engineering. Salary: Competitive.
About Dyson: At Dyson, we challenge convention. We're driven by curiosity, relentless pursuit of improvement, and a desire to create the best possible experiences for our users. Our passion fuels market-leading innovation-from first sketch to in-hand reality. Here, you'll be part of multidisciplinary teams that drive meaningful impact and set the pace for global product leadership.
As 'Design Manager - Experience (Robot)', you will own the end-to-end user journey across all physical and digital touchpoints for Dyson's robotic products. You will elevate the robot experience through defining user-facing requirements and ensuring these are delivered-on time, to spec, within budget, and with uncompromising quality.
Applying deep expertise in robotics, you will collaborate with the cross-functional project leadership team - balancing business priorities, user needs, and innovation opportunities, always focused on maximizing value and impact to the user.
Key Responsibilities
Vision & Strategy
- Define physical and digital requirements for all user experience aspects across robotics projects.
- Translate emerging robotics trends, technologies, and user behaviours into forward-looking experience strategies.
- Maintain a sophisticated understanding of the robotics landscape – translating cutting-edge developments into differentiated Dyson experiences.
- Anticipate industry evolution and define experience strategies that position Dyson at the forefront of in-home robotics over the next 3-5 years.
- Gather insights and recommendations from cross-functional teams (Business Unit, Innovation, Commercial, Customer, IT, Legal) to form and prioritise physical and digital product features.
Stakeholder Alignment
- Translate business needs, robot-specific user insights, and new opportunities into clear requirements—balancing time, cost, spec, and quality.
- Drive alignment across Dyson stakeholders and work closely with technical leads to validate feasibility and delivery of features, prioritising as required.
- Act as the key voice translating complex robotics concepts into clear, user-centric requirements.
Physical Experience (Product & Packaging)
- Define high-level product experience features and requirements for robotic products, from unboxing to end-of-life.
- Collaborate with Design & Product Experience Designers to develop user journeys for different home environments and scenarios.
- Guarantee seamless experiences across the entire product experience – including buttons, sensors, screens, apps, voice commands, and packaging.
Digital Experience (App & Screen)
- Define and prioritise digital user experience features and requirements, captured through experience briefs and Product Requirement Documents, and tested by software teams.
- Work with Digital User Experience Designers to guide and contextualise user journeys, considering edge cases and faults.
- Review competitor analysis and user trials for continuous improvement.
- Ensure app screens are reviewed and signed off by senior stakeholders early in a project, then handed to Hardware and Software teams for delivery and testing.
Out-of-Box Experience
- Oversee the requirement-setting, design, and testing of physical packaging and onboarding materials.
- Make sure essential product information is consistent and available across web, app, and printed materials.
App Content Assets
- Ensure app image and asset requirements are defined (with Digital User Experience Designer) and delivered on schedule by commercial teams.
- Guarantee all app film requirements (with Content Strategy & Design Manager) are clearly briefed and delivered.
- Integrate asset delivery plans into the overall project schedule, collaborating with the Programme Manager.
Additional Expectations
- Consistently drive alignment and clear communication between teams, ensuring timely, high-quality results.
- Champion continuous improvement-in both process and outcome with a strong drive for excellence.
