Job summary

Dyson is seeking a Design Engineer in New Product Innovation to join a multi-disciplinary team focused on discovering and developing disruptive new product concepts and features for the market.

You will prototype, validate concepts, and contribute to design decisions using Siemens NX, Teamcenter, and Matlab/Simulink within the NPI framework, collaborating with suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and performance.

Qualifications

• A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or science discipline.
• Experience in a relevant role solving complex technical problems.
• High degree of creativity and the proven ability to work well within small and focused teams.
• A creative and considered approach to problem solving, following clear design process.
• Experience working in a 3D CAD design, Product Systems and Requirements environment.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of multiple tooling and manufacturing techniques.
• Ability to plan, prioritise tasks and coordinate with the work of others.
• The ability to communicate your ideas within your team and across the business to a range of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Generate original ideas and translate them into product concepts from first principles.
• Engineer mechanical and electronic systems that define future product specifications, optimising for performance, cost, and manufacturability.
• Design and build functional prototypes for performance validation and stakeholder demonstration.
• Validate concepts through hand calculations, simulations (MATLAB & Simulink, 1D modelling, Ansys), and rapid lab testing.
• Interpret test and simulation data, presenting insights in technical reviews within the team.
• Maintain detailed design rationale and contribute to formal specifications with traceability.
• Develop scalable mechanical systems using 3D CAD (Siemens NX), PLM (Teamcenter), and simulation tools.
• Collaborate with Research and cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies.
