About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Data Centre Design & Infrastructure Strategy Engineer to lead data centre design, expansion, modernization, and infrastructure capacity planning across multiple sites.
The role will be responsible for defining infrastructure standards, evaluating current and future capacity requirements, developing expansion strategies and business cases, and providing technical recommendations to senior stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise across data centre physical infrastructure, power, cooling, space planning, cabling, and data centre network architecture, combined with experience in vendor management, budgeting, and infrastructure strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and maintain data centre infrastructure standards covering power, cooling, racks, cabling, containment, and physical infrastructure.
- Lead data centre site assessments, capacity planning, infrastructure assessments, and optimization initiatives.
- Assess current and future requirements for power, cooling, rack space, connectivity, and physical infrastructure capacity.
- Develop costed expansion options, investment proposals, budgets, and business cases for data centre projects.
- Review and challenge data centre infrastructure and network architecture designs to ensure scalability, resilience, performance, and cost efficiency.
- Provide technical input into new data centre builds, expansions, migrations, modernization, and consolidation initiatives.
- Evaluate infrastructure requirements across multiple data centre sites and develop long-term capacity and modernization strategies.
- Work closely with colocation providers, engineering consultants, network teams, infrastructure teams, and technology vendors.
- Manage technical discussions, requirements, commercial evaluations, and negotiations with external vendors and service providers.
- Identify opportunities to improve capacity utilization, infrastructure efficiency, resilience, and operational cost.
- Prepare and present technical recommendations, investment proposals, and infrastructure strategies to senior stakeholders.
- Ensure data centre designs and standards align with relevant industry standards, resilience requirements, and enterprise architecture principles.
Key Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in Data Centre Design, Data Centre Engineering, Infrastructure Planning, Infrastructure Architecture, or a related field.
- Strong hands‑on knowledge of data centre physical infrastructure, including:
- UPS and power systems
- PDU and power distribution
- Cooling and HVAC infrastructure
- Racks and containment
- Structured cabling
- Space and capacity planning
- Good understanding of data centre network architecture, including Spine-Leaf and Pod-based architectures.
- Proven experience in data centre capacity planning, infrastructure expansion, modernization, and optimization.
- Experience developing budgets, cost estimates, business cases, and investment proposals.
- Strong experience working with colocation providers, engineering consultants, system integrators, and infrastructure vendors.
- Experience in vendor evaluation, commercial negotiations, and technical governance.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to present technical recommendations to senior management.
- Experience working in enterprise‑scale or financial services data centre environments will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of Uptime Institute Tier Standards, DCIM tools, and data centre industry standards is preferred.
Preferred Certification
- CDCP (Certified Data Centre Professional) or equivalent data centre certification.
