Job summary

Ministry of Education’s Heritage Centre seeks a Curator to preserve and showcase Singapore’s education history—from the early 19th century to today. You will research, curate exhibitions in physical and virtual formats, develop artefact collections, and manage education programmes for students and MOE staff.

You will engage partners and donors to co-curate special exhibitions and expand the collection while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Strong research and writing abilities with attention to factual accuracy and detail.
  • Excellent command of English; ability to work with vernacular sources in Chinese, Malay or Tamil.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Willingness to work outside regular hours for exhibitions setup and programmes.

Job description

What the role is:

As a Curator at the MOE Heritage Centre (MOE HC), you will be part of a team dedicated to preserving and showcasing Singapore's education story from the early 19th century to the present. You will be responsible for research, exhibition curation, artefact collection development and education programme management. You will also engage MOE's partners to support programmes and exhibitions.


What you will be working on:
  • Conduct research using English and vernacular language sources (i.e. Chinese, Malay or Tamil Language), conceptualise and curate exhibitions for MOE HC in both physical and virtual formats, including leading regular revamps of exhibits
  • Acquire relevant artefacts, provide basic artefact care, and manage the collection system, policies and documentation, including facilitating research enquiries, artefact viewing requests, and incoming and outgoing artefact loans
  • Conceptualise, develop and implement education programmes for students and MOE staff, and support MOE HC's outreach programmes to various communities
  • Engage and collaborate with partners and donors to co-curate and host special exhibitions, develop programmes and grow MOE HC’s artefact collection

What we are looking for:
  • Relevant background in History, Museum Studies or related fields in the Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Relevant working experience in museum, heritage or related fields would be preferred
  • Strong research and writing skills, with attention to factual accuracy and details
  • Good command of English and a vernacular language (Chinese, Malay or Tamil Language) for research and engagement
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team
  • Flexibility to work outside regular office hours when required for exhibition setup and programmes
  • Strong interest in Singapore history or education history
