Job summary

Yeo Geok Chin Lighterage Service is seeking personnel to support marine operations aboard vessels in Singapore. The role involves assisting the Master/Boatman with safe navigation, berthing maneuvers, and deck duties while handling cargo and maintaining equipment.

Ideal candidates will be willing to perform physically demanding work, follow safety protocols, and participate in regular safety briefings. Background in a related role is preferred within a marine services environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Master/Boatman in safe vessel operations and navigation.
• Assist berthing, unberthing, mooring and unmooring operations.
• Handle ropes, mooring lines, anchor and deck equipment as required.
• Maintain lookout and assist during vessel movements and operations.
• Follow instructions from the Master/Boatman at all times.
• Load, unload, shift and secure cargo on board; ensure cargo is secured during transport.
• Assist with delivery and collection of cargo and marine supplies; maintain deck cleanliness.
• Carry out routine cleaning and housekeeping; assist with painting and maintenance work.
• Report defects or unsafe conditions to the Master/Boatman or supervisor.
• Comply with company safety procedures and vessel safety requirements; wear PPE; participate in safety drills.
• Assist with routine checks of vessel, equipment and machinery; assist with taking on fuel and stores.

Job Purpose

To assist in the safe and efficient operation of the vessel and support the Master/Boatman in carrying out marine transportation, lighterage, cargo handling and other assigned vessel-related operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Vessel Operations

• oAssist the Master/Boatman in the safe operation and navigation of the vessel.
• oAssist with berthing, unberthing, mooring and unmooring operations.
• oHandle ropes, mooring lines, anchor sand other deck equipment as required.
• oMaintain proper lookout and assist during vessel movements and operations.
• oFollow instructions given by the Master/Boatman at all times.

2. Cargo and Lighterage Operations

• oAssist with loading, unloading, shifting and securing cargo on board.
• oEnsure cargo is properly secured and safely handled during transportation.
• oAssist with delivery and collection of cargo, stores, equipment or marine supplies.
• oMaintain the cleanliness and safe working condition of cargo and deck areas.

3. Deck and Vessel Maintenance

• oCarry out routine cleaning and housekeeping of the vessel.
• oAssist with painting, chipping, greasing and general maintenance work.
• oAssist with basic inspection of ropes, mooring equipment, deck machinery and other vessel equipment.
• oReport any defects, damage or unsafe conditions to the Master/Boatman or supervisor.

4. Safety Responsibilities

• oComply strictly with company safety procedures, vessel safety requirements and applicable maritime regulations.
• oWear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while carrying out work.
• oParticipate in toolbox meetings, safety briefings and emergency drills.
• oAssist during emergency situations, including fire, man-overboard and other vessel emergencies.
• oImmediately report accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe working conditions.
• oResponsible for carrying out assigned duties safely and properly, maintaining good house keeping and assisting the Master/Boatman to ensure the vessel operates safely and efficiently.

5. General Duties

• oAssist with routine checks of the vessel, equipment, tools and machinery.
• oAssist in taking on fuel, water, stores and other supplies when required.
• oMaintain proper housekeeping and cleanliness of the vessel.
• oAssist other crew members in daily vessel operations.
• oPerform any other reasonable duties related to vessel operations as assigned by the Master/Boatman or management.

Work Requirements

• Willing to work on board vessels and perform outdoor and physically demanding work.
• Able to work according to vessel operating schedules, including weekends, public holidays and extended hours when required.
• Able to work safely as part of a marine crew.
• Must comply with all company, vessel, MPA and applicable maritime safety requirements.
• Relevant maritime certificates, training or experience will be an advantage.
• Background in a similar or related role strongly preferred.
