Job summary

Job description

The Electrical Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all field and administrative activities related to electrical installation, substation works, and power grid connection projects. The role demands strong technical understanding, rigorous coordination across contractors, utility authorities, and internal teams, and full ownership of schedule, compliance, and safety outcomes on assigned sites. This is a demanding, high-accountability role requiring hands‑on coordination, tight follow‑through, and the ability to resolve issues quickly under pressure.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Project & Site Coordination

• Coordinate end-to-end execution of electrical and power grid works, including cabling, substations, transformers, switchgear, and grid interconnection points.
• Drive daily site coordination meetings with contractors, utility representatives, and internal engineering teams; ensure action items are closed within agreed timelines.
• Track and enforce project schedules; proactively flag and resolve delays, resource conflicts, and site access issues before they escalates.
• Coordinate shutdown/isolation windows with utility providers (e.g. grid operators) for tie‑ins, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Oversee mobilization and demobilization of manpower, and equipment across multiple sites as required.

2. Technical & Engineering Coordination

• Liaise with design/engineering teams to ensure drawings, single‑line diagrams, and technical specifications are correctly interpreted and implemented on site.
• Coordinate testing and commissioning activities for electrical systems, substations, and grid connections, ensuring readiness of test equipment, permits, and personnel.
• Review technical submissions, method statements, and material submittals from contractors/vendors for completeness before approval routing.
• Support troubleshooting of technical issues on site, coordinating with engineers and specialist subcontractors to drive resolution.
• Prepare, review, and redline electrical layout drawings, single‑line diagrams (SLDs), cable routing plans, and substation layouts using AutoCAD/CAD software.
• Coordinate as‑built drawing updates with design teams and contractors, ensuring all site changes are accurately reflected and version‑controlled.
• Cross‑check CAD drawings against site conditions during walk‑downs, flagging discrepancies for correction before construction/installation proceeds.
• Maintain an organized drawing register, tracking revision status, approvals, and distribution of the latest issued drawings to site teams.
• Interpret and apply electrical standards and codes when reviewing designs and site works.
• Understand and coordinate HV/MV/LV cable sizing, cable pulling, jointing, and termination works with technical teams and contractors.
• Coordinate protection & relay settings, earthing/grounding system installation, and power factor correction works with specialist engineers.
• Support load calculations, cable derating checks, and short‑circuit/fault level considerations during coordination of design changes.
• Coordinate transformer, switchgear, and SCADA/metering installation and integration works with equipment vendors and utility engineers.

3. Regulatory, Utility & Stake holder Liaison

• Coordinate all submissions, approvals, and correspondence with power utility authorities and relevant regulatory bodies for grid connection and compliance.
• Track statutory approval timelines (e.g. grid connection agreements, inspection sign-offs, licensing) and ensure documentation is submitted without delay.
• Act as the primary point of contact between the project team and external stakeholders (utility companies, authorities, consultants, clients) for coordination matters.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records of all correspondence, approvals, and site instructions for audit and compliance purposes.

4. Health, Safety & Compliance

• Enforce strict compliance with electrical safety standards, permit-to-work systems, and lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) procedures on all high‑voltage and live‑work activities.
• Conduct or coordinate toolbox talks, site safety briefings, and risk assessments prior to critical electrical works.
• Ensure all personnel on site hold valid competency certifications for electrical/HV work before deployment.
• Investigate and report any safety incidents, near‑misses, or non‑compliance immediately, driving corrective actions to closure.

5. Documentation, Reporting & Cost Control

• Maintain up‑to‑date project trackers covering progress, manpower, materials, RFIs, and outstanding approvals.
• Prepare regular progress reports, dashboards, and escalation summaries for management review.
• Coordinate procurement and delivery tracking of electrical materials and equipment to avoid site delays.
• Support cost tracking and variation order documentation related to coordination‑driven scope changes.
