Position Overview
A leading global investment platform is seeking an experienced APAC Gas Analyst to join its commodities investment team. The successful candidate will be responsible for fundamental research and the development of actionable trading strategies across Asian LNG and natural gas markets, with particular emphasis on JKM.
This role requires a strong understanding of regional supply-and-demand dynamics, global LNG flows and cross-benchmark pricing relationships. The analyst will work closely with portfolio managers and traders to identify market dislocations, develop trade ideas and support investment decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth fundamental analysis of APAC LNG and natural gas markets.
- Build and maintain detailed supply-and-demand models covering production, liquefaction, shipping, regasification, storage and consumption.
- Analyse JKM pricing, forward curves, physical flows and regional LNG balances.
- Monitor cargo movements, vessel activity, outages, maintenance schedules, weather patterns and infrastructure developments.
- Assess natural gas and LNG demand across China, Japan, Korea, India and other major Asian markets.
- Evaluate pricing relationships and arbitrage opportunities between JKM and other global gas benchmarks, including TTF and Henry Hub.
- Translate fundamental research into actionable directional, relative-value, spread and cross-market trading strategies.
- Identify market dislocations, catalysts and trading opportunities across physical, futures and options markets.
- Work closely with portfolio managers and traders on trade construction, entry and exit levels, scenario analysis and risk management.
- Produce clear and timely research, presenting high-conviction market views to the investment team.
- Continuously enhance analytical frameworks, datasets and forecasting methodologies.
Candidate Requirements
- At least five years of relevant professional experience in LNG or natural gas markets.
- Strong knowledge of JKM and APAC LNG markets is essential.
- Proven expertise in fundamental supply-and-demand analysis.
- Demonstrable experience developing trading strategies and investment ideas from fundamental market research.
- Strong understanding of directional, relative-value, spread and global gas arbitrage strategies.
- Previous experience at a leading commodity trading house, energy major, hedge fund, investment bank, utility or specialist energy-market firm.
- Detailed knowledge of APAC LNG flows, major importing markets and regional pricing dynamics.
- Strong understanding of TTF, Henry Hub and the interaction between global gas benchmarks.
- Experience analysing physical, futures and options markets.
- Strong quantitative, modelling and data-analysis capabilities.
- Ability to communicate complex market developments as clear and actionable investment recommendations.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL or commodity-market data platforms would be advantageous.
