SP-Lotus / Lotus Advisors · AIA Singapore
Tampines, Singapore · Contract appointment · Full-time commitment preferred
Build an insurance sales and financial-advisory career with AIA Singapore, supported by an assigned manager, joint fieldwork and structured training.
A good salary is not a lifetime appointment.
Get the qualifications. Join a reputable company. Work towards the next promotion. Build a comfortable life for your family.
It is a familiar Singapore career plan. A steady monthly salary, annual increments and a respectable designation. There is nothing unreasonable about wanting these things. The mistake is assuming that once you have them, your security is settled.
A senior position can take twenty years to reach and one restructuring to disappear. A good performance appraisal does not give you the final say over a headcount decision.
We have seen experienced, well-paid executives return to the job market after years of building their careers. Their experience did not disappear. Neither did their housing instalments, family commitments or plans for retirement.
A corporate role paying $5,000, $8,000 or $10,000 a month is attractive. An air-conditioned office, a familiar routine, coffee from the pantry and a salary credited on time. These are comforts worth having. They are also comforts worth looking beyond.
Your monthly commitments are yours. The decision to retain your position belongs to someone else.
That deserves as much thought as your next salary negotiation.
Before you dismiss sales, think about your next interview.
You prepare your CV, explain your achievements, establish your credibility and persuade someone that you are worth hiring. Then you follow up and wait for a decision.
You are already selling. You are selling your ability to do the job.
If you have attended six or seven interviews without an offer, you already understand the effort of preparing, following up and dealing with rejection. Calling the process a job search does not make it easy.
There is nothing wrong with seeking a salaried position. But dismissing sales as beneath you while repeatedly having to sell yourself is a contradiction worth facing.
Master the art of selling: understand a genuine need, earn trust, explain your recommendation and ask for a decision. Develop a skill you can keep improving throughout your career.
The supposedly safe choice deserves scrutiny too. Waiting for someone else to recognise your value carries its own uncertainty.
The opportunity and support.
