Job description

Nandina REM is creating new sources of advanced materials for manufacturing supply chains. We are an early stage company specialising in the use of deep tech and material science to recover and remanufacture critical resources, creating a rapidly developing market for low-emission circular materials such as carbon fibre composites and metals.

We’re looking for a Circular Systems Architect to design and implement the systems that integrate supply chain assurance, trade compliance protocols, and traceability technology to build a more resilient and transparent supply chain. You will be critical in managing the process for imports/exports, customs, and goods control, working closely with commercial, supply chain and operations to facilitate smooth and compliant movement of materials. This role requires a meticulous and proactive individual willing to deeply leverage AI in all aspects of their ways of working and develop methods to support navigating trade compliance intricacies in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Please note, candidates must have the legal right to work in their jurisdiction of hire. Nandina REM is unable to sponsor local work visas for this role.

Supply Chain Systems Assurance

Lead the design and implementation of integrated systems for supply chain assurance, leveraging AI to ensure compliance with international trade laws, customs regulations, and sanctions (e.g., HS codes, ECCN classification, Free Trade Agreements).

Develop and maintain systems for preparing and reviewing shipping/export documents (commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, customs declarations), automating checks and flagging discrepancies.

Establish and manage systems for liaison with customs authorities, brokers, and regulatory agencies, streamlining communication and documentation.

Implement AI systems to continuously monitor changes in trade laws and proactively update compliance processes to mitigate risks, providing real-time alerts and recommendations.

Provide expert guidance on classification, valuation, and country of origin rules through integrated AI systems, enhancing accuracy and efficiency.

Collaborate with legal counsel and external experts on trade compliance matters, integrating their insights into AI-driven assurance systems.

Develop, implement, and maintain a robust strategic goods compliance and traceability regime, utilising AI to ensure adherence to dual-use regulations, export controls, and sanctions programs across all relevant jurisdictions.

Design AI-powered systems to interpret and apply applicable trade laws and the movement of strategic goods. This involves providing internal guidance through the system to ensure all activities within these zones comply with complex regulations, such as those governing dual-use items and technology transfers.

Establish clear policies and procedures within AI-driven systems for the identification, classification, and licensing of strategic goods, including technology transfers and intangible exports, automating risk assessments.

Implement AI systems to conduct thorough due diligence on all parties involved in strategic goods transactions, including customers, suppliers, and intermediaries, to mitigate diversion risks and flag suspicious activities.

Develop and implement a comprehensive training program for employees involved in strategic goods activities, leveraging the system to ensure awareness of regulatory requirements and internal controls and track compliance.

Oversee the application and management of strategic goods licenses and authorisations through AI systems, ensuring timely submission and compliance with all conditions.

Stay abreast of global developments in strategic goods controls and sanctions, proactively updating internal policies and procedures to maintain compliance and predict future regulatory changes.

Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports to regulatory authorities regarding strategic goods transactions.

Develop and implement a comprehensive trade compliance risk management framework, including identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies for potential compliance violations and supply chain disruptions.

Manage and maintain accurate trade documentation for all goods entering, leaving, or transiting through special economic zones. The architect must ensure proper permits (like single-use or multiple-use permits under the STA) are obtained and that records are kept for customs audits, demonstrating a transparent and compliant supply chain.

Establish and maintain a robust governance structure for trade compliance, defining roles, responsibilities, and accountability across relevant departments, with AI assisting in oversight.

Conduct regular risk assessments and internal audits using AI system analytics to identify compliance gaps and areas for improvement, providing predictive insights.

Develop and implement corrective action plans to address identified risks and non-compliance issues, automating tracking and follow-up.

Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to trade compliance and risk management, reporting on performance and trends to senior management with actionable insights.

Ensure close coordination with the operations team on potential delays, supplier issues, and other supply chain risks impacting trade compliance.

Maintain accurate compliance records and documentation, supporting internal/external audits and regulatory inquiries.

Provide regular training and awareness programs to internal teams on trade compliance best practices, risk mitigation strategies, and relevant regulatory updates.

Develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement in trade compliance and risk management processes through machine learning.

Capability Building & Operational Coordination

Lead initiatives to upskill the team in AI/ML concepts and tools relevant to trade compliance and supply chain traceability, focusing on practical application.

Collaborate with external AI experts and solution providers to bring in best practices and advanced AI capabilities, integrating them into the team's existing systems and workflows.

Collaborate closely with Operations to ensure seamless and compliant logistics and fulfilment processes through AI system design and implementation, optimising workflows.

Collaborate with the QA/QC team to identify areas where AI can improve defect detection, predict potential quality issues, and automate inspection processes based on material origin and processing history.

Develop and implement AI-driven alerts and reporting mechanisms based on traceability data to flag potential quality risks.

Generate regular reports and dashboards on key traceability metrics using AI, providing insights into material flow, inventory levels, and potential risks, with AI-powered forecasting.

Communicate traceability information effectively to internal stakeholders, including production, quality, logistics, and management teams, leveraging AI for clear and concise reporting.

Support compliance efforts related to product origin, safety regulations, and sustainability initiatives through accurate AI-managed traceability data.

Skills & Experience
