Job summary

Orchid Hotel Pte Ltd is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to plan, organise and supervise daily operations of the Engineering Department in a busy hotel environment.

You will lead a team of engineers, manage budgets, ensure preventive and corrective maintenance, and drive energy efficiency while maintaining guest comfort. The role requires strong leadership, technical knowledge of hotel systems, and compliance with M&E and safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of hotel engineering systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, lifts, generators, kitchen and laundry equipment.
  • Good knowledge of Singapore statutory regulations relating to building maintenance, WSH, Fire Safety and environmental compliance.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and respond effectively under pressure.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise, supervise and control the daily operations of the Engineering Department.
  • Ensure the hotel building, mechanical and electrical systems, plant, equipment and facilities are maintained in good working condition through preventive and corrective maintenance programmes.
  • Develop and implement engineering policies, procedures and maintenance schedules to ensure operational efficiency and minimise equipment downtime.
  • Lead and supervise the Engineering team, including staff scheduling, performance management, coaching and training to maintain high standards of productivity and service.
  • Prepare, monitor and control the department's operating budget, maintenance expenditure and energy consumption.
  • Identify and implement energy conservation initiatives and cost-saving measures without compromising operational efficiency or guest comfort.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, recommend improvements, oversee renovation, upgrading and engineering projects from planning through completion.
  • Liaise with contractors, consultants, suppliers and relevant government authorities on maintenance works, projects, inspections and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH), Fire Safety, environmental regulations and all other applicable statutory requirements.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations and equipment failures to minimise disruption to hotel operations.

Job Requirements
