Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Science and Chemistry teacher to join a growing school in the heart of Singapore. The successful applicant will be expected to teach Science from ages 11-14 and Chemistry from ages 14 to 18. The school offers both IGCSE ("Double Award") and International A-Level Chemistry, so experience in these areas would be an advantage. They will have outstanding subject knowledge and have the ability to enthuse and inspire students, maximizing achievement and progress at all levels. A teacher with flexibility, resilience, and a caring and kind approach towards students. A learner with a drive to develop creative new approaches to student learning within a collaborative environment. There may also be an opportunity for a whole school leadership position for a suitable qualified and experienced candidate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver the Science and Chemistry curriculum to assigned classes in accordance with the School’s timetable.
  • Differentiate lessons according to the abilities and learning needs of individual students.
  • Promote independent learning by adopting teaching and learning strategies which develop the competence and confidence of every student.
  • Ensure the thorough implementation of subject specifications, teaching schemes, assessment policies and reporting procedures.
  • Assess and develop the Chemistry curriculum in the school
  • Plan and deliver schemes of work, including the choice of appropriate teaching and learning methods to meet the needs of the subject, and of different students.
  • Keep abreast of current developments in Science and Chemistry education and adapt the curriculum content and methods of teaching and examining as appropriate.
  • Identifying appropriate resources within the limits of the school budget.
  • Ensure health and safety policies are followed within the Chemistry laboratory.
  • Ensure that the Chemistry laboratory presents a stimulating environment, which helps to influence students’ attitudes positively towards the subject.
  • Ensure students’ work is regularly assessed and that homework is in line with school policy.
  • Report to parents in accordance with the school’s reporting policy.
  • Use information gained from assessment, recording and reporting procedures to generate further improvement in student achievement.
  • When required, take on a form tutor role in the Senior School and fulfill the responsibilities of that position.
  • Follow the School’s policies and procedures with regard to discipline and behaviour, daily routines, duties, homework, leave of absence and visits.
  • Contribute to co-curricular activities that broaden students’ experiences and contribute to the general life of the school.
  • Promote the study of Chemistry amongst students and parents.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings of a professional nature.
  • Maintain appropriate links with teaching colleagues in all sections of the school and foster cross-curricular links where appropriate.
  • Liaise with members of the Inclusive Education Team with regard to individual students, to ensure that those needs are understood, planned for and met.
  • Develop effective links with the wider community, in order to extend the study of Chemistry and enhance teaching and learning.
