Job summary

Oilmar DMCC is seeking a capable Bunker Trader to originate, negotiate, and execute back-to-back marine fuel trades, building a diverse portfolio of shipowners, operators, and suppliers. You will balance commercial opportunity with credit, risk, and compliance in a fast-moving market across APAC regions.

The role offers direct revenue responsibility, with seniority-based scope and strategic growth opportunities within a governance-driven trading environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Maritime Studies, Economics, Finance, or related discipline (preferred).
  • Relevant experience in bunker trading, marine fuels, shipping, or physical oil products trading (experience level aligned with seniority).
  • Demonstrated sales and negotiation capability.
  • Strong understanding of global shipping markets, bunker products, quality specifications, and logistics constraints.
  • Fluency in English (additional languages advantageous depending on location).

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and grow a portfolio of shipowners, operators, charterers, and trading counterparties.
  • Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, and contractual conditions to optimize margin.
  • Execute back-to-back bunker trades (HSFO, VLSFO, MGO, and alternatives where applicable).
  • Coordinate with operations teams, suppliers, brokers, and agents for timely delivery.
  • Maintain trade data accuracy and CRM entries; monitor pipeline and KPIs.
  • Ensure compliance with credit limits, risk policies, and regulatory requirements.

Oilmar DMCC was established in November 2015 with the goal of providing specialized chartering and tanker operations. Since then, Oilmar has expanded into trading and various projects within the energy sector. Today, Oilmar offers services in more than 60 countries worldwide, with the presence in the UAE, South Korea, Greece, Singapore, UK, USA and Americas.

Role Purpose

Bunker Trader is responsible for originating, negotiating, and executing back-to-back marine fuel transactions while developing and managing a portfolio of shipowners, operators, charterers, and/or suppliers.

The role carries direct revenue responsibility and requires strong commercial acumen combined with disciplined credit, risk, and compliance awareness. Scope of responsibility and portfolio ownership will depend on seniority level.

Key Responsibilities
1. Commercial Development & Revenue Generation
  • Develop, manage, and grow a portfolio of shipowners, operators, charterers, and trading counterparties.
  • Generate new business through proactive outreach, market intelligence, and structured client engagement.
  • Convert enquiries into profitable, repeat business.
  • Expand regional and international customer base in line with company growth strategy.
2. Trading Execution & Deal Management
  • Execute back-to-back physical bunker trades (HSFO, VLSFO, MGO, and alternative marine fuels where applicable).
  • Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, and contractual conditions to optimize margin while maintaining competitiveness.
  • Monitor market trends, price movements, supply-demand dynamics, and regulatory developments.
  • Structure transactions in alignment with company risk appetite and commercial objectives.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Provide professional advice on fuel grades, port availability, logistics, and regulatory considerations.
  • Coordinate closely with operations teams, suppliers, brokers, and agents to ensure timely and efficient delivery.
  • Proactively resolve operational issues and minimize claims exposure.
4. Trade Lifecycle & Administration
  • Manage the full transaction lifecycle: enquiry, pricing, confirmation, nomination, delivery monitoring, and post-fixture follow-up.
  • Ensure accuracy of documentation and trade data entry in internal trading and CRM systems.
  • Maintain pipeline visibility and performance tracking.
5. Credit, Risk & Compliance Alignment
  • Conduct trading within approved credit limits and exposure thresholds.
  • Liaise with Credit & Risk teams to monitor counterparty exposure and support receivables follow-up.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, sanctions regulations, KYC requirements, and applicable laws.
  • Escalate credit, operational, or compliance risks in a timely manner.
6. Internal Collaboration & Reporting
  • Share market intelligence and customer insights across regional offices.
  • Provide regular updates on trading performance, sales pipeline, and key KPIs.
  • Contribute to regional expansion initiatives and strategic projects (new ports, alternative fuels, digital initiatives).
Seniority Levels
Mid-Level Bunker Trader (3–6 Years Experience)
  • Ability to independently manage transactions and client relationships.
  • Demonstrated revenue and margin contribution.
Senior Bunker Trader (6+ Years Experience)
  • Established industry professional with strong market network.
  • Proven P&L responsibility and portfolio growth track record.
  • Strategic contribution to regional development and potential mentorship responsibilities.
