Job summary

Binance is seeking an enthusiastic Backend Engineer intern on the Pay & Card team in Singapore to help build reliable, scalable payment services powering crypto and fiat experiences.

You will work with cross‑functional teams, design and implement APIs, handle high‑volume transactions, and learn about distributed systems, security, and observability while contributing to core backend services.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, OOP and CS fundamentals.
• Proficiency in Java, Go, C++, Python or similar backend language.
• Understanding of relational databases and SQL (indexes, transactions, design).
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs, HTTP, networking, and client-server concepts.
• Understanding of operating systems, concurrency and backend engineering concepts.
• Ability to write clear, maintainable code and reason about problems.
• Strong communication and willingness to learn in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services supporting Binance Pay and Card products.
• Build scalable APIs and microservices for payment processing and merchant services.
• Develop distributed systems handling high-volume, latency-sensitive transactions.
• Work with databases, caching, message queues, and other infra to improve performance.
• Implement robust transaction workflows with retries, idempotency, concurrency, and failure handling.
• Troubleshoot production issues via logs, metrics, tracing and root-cause analysis.
• Write clean, well-tested code and participate in code reviews.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Contribute to improvements in reliability, observability, security, and engineering practices.

About The Role

As a Backend Engineer on the Pay & Card team, you will work on backend systems powering crypto and fiat payment experiences for users and merchants globally. You will collaborate with backend engineers, product managers, QA engineers, and other cross-functional teams to build reliable, secure, and scalable payment services. You will gain hands‑on experience with high‑throughput transaction systems, distributed architectures, payment processing, and financial infrastructure.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, object‑oriented programming, and computer science fundamentals.
• Proficiency in at least one backend programming language such as Java, Go, C++, Python, or a similar language.
• Understanding of relational databases and SQL, including indexes, transactions, and database design fundamentals.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs, HTTP, networking, and client‑server architecture.
• Understanding of operating systems, concurrency, and common backend engineering concepts.
• Ability to write clear, maintainable code and reason systematically about technical problems.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to learn in a fast‑moving engineering environment.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with MySQL/PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, or other message‑queue technologies.
• Understanding of distributed‑system concepts such as consistency, availability, replication, caching, asynchronous processing, and fault tolerance.
• Knowledge of payment concepts such as authorization, capture, settlement, refunds, reconciliation, chargebacks, and payment lifecycle management.
• Previous backend engineering internship, personal project, hackathon, or open‑source experience.
• Interest in cryptocurrency, blockchain, fintech, and payment infrastructure.
