Job summary

Swiss Nexus is recruiting a Backend Engineer to design and build the systems powering payments, settlement and routing across multiple networks. You’ll work on high‑performance APIs and distributed services, contributing to core architectural decisions in a fast‑moving engineering environment.

You will design, implement and operate backend platforms with emphasis on reliability, performance and security. Strong TS, Go, or Rust skills and deep distributed systems knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven track record building production-grade backend systems.
• Experience with TypeScript, Go or Rust.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems, API design and database architecture.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Strong CS fundamentals across algorithms, data structures and systems design.

Swiss Nexus is recruiting on behalf of a fast-growing technology company building next-generation payment infrastructure for digital assets.

Our client is developing infrastructure that makes moving and using value across blockchain networks simpler, faster and more intuitive. Its technology connects multiple sources of funds and payment methods, removing much of the complexity traditionally associated with onchain transactions.

This is an opportunity to join a highly technical engineering team building transaction infrastructure where performance, reliability and user experience are critical.

The Role

As a Backend Engineer, you will design and build the systems powering payments, settlement, transaction routing and asset conversion across multiple networks and providers.

You’ll work on high-performance APIs and distributed backend services, contribute to core architectural decisions, and build new systems from the ground up in a fast-moving engineering environment.

What You'll Do

• Design, build and maintain high-performance APIs and backend services.
• Build systems supporting payments, settlement, transaction routing, asset conversion and identity/security flows.
• Develop infrastructure capable of operating reliably across multiple networks and providers.
• Build new backend capabilities that improve product performance, conversion and reliability.
• Participate in system design, architecture reviews and technical decision-making.
• Improve the scalability, reliability and fault tolerance of production systems.
• Contribute to incident response, code reviews, testing and engineering standards.
• Take ownership of projects from initial design through production deployment.

What We're Looking For

• Strong experience building production backend systems using a modern programming language.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, or strong experience with Go or Rust and a clear willingness to work primarily in TypeScript.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, API design and database architecture.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud infrastructure, Docker, Kubernetes or comparable containerized environments.
• Strong computer science fundamentals across algorithms, data structures and systems design.
• Ability to take ownership and build effectively with limited scaffolding in a fast‑moving environment.
• Comfortable working through ambiguity and solving complex engineering problems independently.

Nice to Have

• Experience building payment, settlement, transaction routing or other high-volume transactional systems.
• Experience with blockchain, Web3 or other distributed financial infrastructure.
• Experience building products or systems from zero rather than primarily maintaining established platforms.
• Previous experience in a startup or highly autonomous engineering environment.
