Automation / Motion Control Engineer (Ref: 37718)

Salary: S$4,500 - S$6,500

Our client is a manufacturer and distributor of industrial components and solutions for Factory Automation, Press Die and Plastic Mold, Electrical & Wiring applications, Tools, and Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) products.

They are currently seeking an Automation / Motion Control Engineer to design, develop, and support automation solutions using PLC, Robotics, Vision, and Motion Control technologies. The successful candidate will be considered for either an Executive or Assistant Manager position based on their relevant experience, technical expertise, project management capabilities, and leadership experience.

Responsibilities

1. Automation Solution Design & Development
   • Design and develop automation and motion control solutions using PLC, Robotics, Vision, and Motion Control technologies.
   • Understand customer manufacturing requirements and recommend suitable automation solutions.
   • Develop system architectures and select appropriate electrical components for automation control systems.
   • Prepare electrical component specifications, bills of materials, purchase lists, and other technical documentation.
   • Support the programming, integration, and commissioning of Vision Systems, Robots, AGVs, Servo Systems, and other automation equipment.
2. PLC Programming & Technical Support
   • Develop, modify, optimise, and troubleshoot PLC programs to ensure stable and reliable machine operation.
   • Diagnose and resolve issues related to motion control systems, robots, vision systems, AGVs, and servo systems.
   • Provide technical consultation and engineering support to customers and internal stakeholders.
   • Analyse technical issues, identify root causes, and implement practical solutions.
   • Prepare technical reports, timing charts, and project documentation.
3. Project Management & Implementation
   • Participate in automation projects from technical evaluation and solution design through implementation, commissioning, and project completion.
   • Coordinate with internal departments, headquarters, overseas subsidiaries, suppliers, and customers to ensure successful project execution.
   • Liaise with suppliers and customers on technical requirements, project schedules, and implementation matters.
   • Monitor project progress and support the timely completion of project milestones.
4. Machine Performance & Continuous Improvement
   • Collect and analyse machine performance and execution timing data.
   • Identify opportunities to improve machine cycle time, productivity, and overall equipment performance.
   • Recommend and implement technical improvements to enhance equipment efficiency, reliability, and operational stability.
   • Participate in continuous improvement and equipment enhancement initiatives.
5. Technical Sales & Customer Support
   • Work closely with the Sales team to understand customer requirements and project objectives.
   • Support technical presentations, solution proposals, and product recommendations.
   • Communicate technical concepts and solutions effectively to customers and stakeholders.
   • Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, from pre-sales consultation to post-implementation support.
6. Additional Responsibilities (Assistant Manager)
   • Lead the design and development of complex automation and motion control solutions.
   • Manage automation projects from technical evaluation through commissioning and final project completion.
   • Review and approve system architectures, electrical designs, component selections, and technical documentation.
   • Serve as the technical lead for complex customer projects and provide technical direction to project teams.
   • Lead technical presentations and recommend appropriate automation solutions to customers.
   • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance cycle time, productivity, and system performance.
   • Analyse complex machine performance issues and recommend effective technical solutions.
   • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to junior engineers.
   • Coordinate with headquarters, overseas subsidiaries, suppliers, and customers to resolve complex technical issues.
   • Evaluate emerging automation technologies and recommend solutions that strengthen the company's technical capabilities.

Requirements & Preferences

(Must)

• Bachelor's Degree in Control Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in automation, motion control, machine control systems, machine building, or a related industrial automation environment.
• Hands-on experience with PLC programming and industrial automation systems.
• Knowledge of motion control systems, servo systems, robotics, and machine vision technologies.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with customers, suppliers, internal stakeholders, headquarters, and overseas subsidiaries.
• Willing to travel for business purposes when required.

(Advantageous)

• Experience in the semiconductor, display, secondary battery, or related advanced manufacturing industries.
• Experience in a machine builder, manufacturing, or industrial automation environment.
• Hands-on experience with EtherCAT communication and system integration.
• Experience with servo motors, linear motors, cylinders, and other motion control products.
• Experience working with Servotronix drives or other industrial motion control platforms.
