Job summary

NTU Singapore, School of Art Design and Media, seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor in Digital Filmmaking to advance research and teaching in film and moving image media within an interdisciplinary setting. The role emphasizes scholarly excellence, industry collaboration, and curriculum development in a global context.

The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate programs, supervise student projects, and foster partnerships with industry and cultural institutions

Qualifications

• A PhD (or Practice-based PhD) in Digital Filmmaking or a related field. Alternatively, applicants with a terminal MFA (or its equivalent) will also be considered. In exceptional cases, an MA with substantial practice-based industry experience will also be considered.
• Proven expertise in digital filmmaking (production) and audio-visual storytelling; specialisation in areas such as cinematography, sound design, film music and creative producing, are encouraged
• A strong portfolio demonstrating artistic excellence; scholarly impact will also be looked at favourably
• Familiarity with rapidly evolving filmmaking technologies and practices, such as virtual production, AI-generated content (AIGC), and AI-assisted workflows
• Evidence of internationally recognised creative practice, including screenings, exhibitions, and top-tier festival participation
• Proven teaching and student mentorship at undergraduate and/or graduate level
• Strong collaborative, communication, and interpersonal skills
• A commitment to creative excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and academic growth within a research-intensive university environment

Responsibilities

• Conduct and disseminate internationally recognised creative practice and/or practice-led research with scholarly publications in digital filmmaking, cinema studies and related fields.
• Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in film production, moving image media, cinema studies, film aesthetics, and related areas of specialisation.
• Supervise undergraduate final-year projects, graduate dissertations, and practice-based research projects.
• Contribute to curriculum innovation and the development of new courses aligned with evolving industry practices and technologies and contemporary pedagogies.
• Engage with emerging developments in film and media technologies, including AI-assisted technologies and workflows, and digital production environments.
• Participate actively in academic administration, service, and committee work appropriate to rank.
• Contribute to the School’s strategic development and foster collaborations with industry, cultural institutions, and interdisciplinary research partners.
