We are seeking an experienced Technical Officer (Assistant Manager) to oversee our Business, Social & Health Sciences (BSHS) laboratory operations and maintenance, ensuring laboratories remain safe, fully operational, and conducive for teaching, research, and training activities.Reporting to Technical Officer Team Lead (TO TL), BSHS, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Managing daily laboratory operations and maintenance activities.
• Coordinating and resolving operational issues in the laboratories.
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives and implementing best practices in laboratory operations and management.
• Supporting cost-effective procurement for the laboratories.
• Purchasing and monitoring of consumables usage.

The ideal candidate is a people leader with proven experience in laboratory management, operational planning and budgetary management, stakeholder engagement, coupled with a commitment to excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.

Lab Operations

• Execute measures to ensure the readiness of the laboratory to support students and other users in collaboration with fellow colleagues.
• Perform daily housekeeping and maintenance to ensure safety, cleanliness and tidiness of laboratories.
• Support teaching staff and Professional Officers in the set-up of experiments, prepare materials or consumables, troubleshoot, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and software.
• Support in tracking and maintaining laboratory documentation (e.g. equipment manual, risk assessment, Material Safety Data Sheet, service reports and other safety certificates).
• Assist to provide support to students’ access to laboratory resources.
• Assist to track and manage loan of tools as well as equipment to students and staff.
• Support in maintaining inventory of laboratory equipment and consumables.
• Manage the users’ loans and monitor availability of laboratory inventory and consumables.
• Monitor and collect data of laboratory utilization.

Lab Process Improvements

• Assist to design and develop the laboratory continuously to ensure industry relevance and co-create an authentic learning environment for students’ learning and applied research endeavours.

Lab Procurement Support

• Assist in procurement of laboratory equipment and procure consumables.

Lab Safety & Risk Management

• Support in ensuring compliance with work, safety, and health regulations in the laboratories.
• Conduct and/or manage routine safety checks and maintain a safe laboratory environment in compliance with safety regulations and standards
• Ensure compliance with work, safety and health regulations in the laboratories.
• Ensure adherence to safety procedures and regulatory requirements
