Job summary

SMRT Trains Ltd in Singapore seeks an Assistant Engineer, Signal and Communication, to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on signalling and communication systems. You will diagnose faults, troubleshoot, repair, and modify components, and lead a small technical team.

The role involves shift work, working at heights, and adherence to safety and SOP requirements, with opportunities to participate in project testing, commissioning, and contractor oversight as needed.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Engineering required.
  • Electrical and Electronics related work experience is an added advantage.
  • Possessing a Class 3 driving license is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Work in rotating or fixed shifts (i.a.w. MOM guidelines).
  • Work at heights to perform maintenance activities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on components and equipment.
  • Perform corrective maintenance on components and equipment.
  • Perform modifications on components and equipment.
  • Operate ground support equipment, testers and tools.
  • Drive company vehicle for work (if licensed).
  • Perform PM/PIC role.
  • Observe and report safety concerns.
  • Comply with SOPs, regulator requirements, etc.
  • Undertake tasks incidental to works as assigned by supervisor.
  • Lead a team of Technical officers to ensure compliance with procedures.
  • Complete the necessary reports for the task.
  • Plan and complete scheduled maintenance on time.
  • Monitor equipment performance and follow up.
  • Ensure authorized access to Signal Equipment Rooms.
  • Manage and control Signalling and Communication spares.
  • Maintain good housekeeping.
  • Assist in project work including testing & commissioning and contractor attendance.

Job Purpose

The Assistant Engineer, Signal and Communication, is responsible to perform Preventive and Corrective Maintenance on the corresponding systems. He/She is also to perform fault attendance, fault diagnosis tests, troubleshooting, repairs and modifications to the components and equipment.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Work in rotating or fixed shifts (i.a.w. MOM guidelines), as assigned by supervisors.
  • 2. Work at heights to perform maintenance activities.
  • 3. Perform preventive maintenance on components and equipment, as assigned by supervisors.
  • 4. Perform corrective maintenance on components and equipment, as assigned by supervisors.
  • 5. Perform modifications on components and equipment, as assigned by supervisor.
  • 6. Operate ground support equipment, testers and tools, as assigned by supervisors.
  • 7. Drive company vehicle for the purpose of work, as assigned by supervisors. (Applicable for those with Singapore Driving License)
  • 8. Perform PM/PIC role.
  • 9. Observe and report any safety concerns at the workplace.
  • 10. Comply with various policies and regulations, eg SOP requirements, statutory regulations, regulator requirements, etc.
  • 11. Undertake any other tasks or functions that are incidental or ancillary to the performance of the works, as assigned by supervisor. Examples include
    • a. Responding to emergency operations responses,
    • b. Assist in the execution of projects; including testing & commissioning, attendance to contractors, etc
    • c. Supervise contractors' work.
    • d. Preparation of reports.
    • e. Provide logistics support.
    • f. Housekeeping.
  • 12. To lead a team of Technical officers to perform tasks in compliance with relevant procedures and instructions as contained in Quality Procedures, Work Instructions and relevant change instructions.
  • 13. To complete the necessary reports for the task at hand.
  • 14. To plan and complete scheduled Preventive and Corrective Maintenance work on time.
  • 15. To carry out day-to-day monitoring of equipment performance, and follow up where appropriate.
  • 16. To ensure authorized access to Signal Equipment Rooms and Installations,
  • 17. To manage and control Signalling and Communication maintenance spares.
  • 18. To ensure good housekeeping of the workplace.
  • 19. Carry out any other work as instructed by Engineering Maintenance Manager.
Qualifications & Work Experience
  • Diploma in Engineering Discipline
  • Electrical and Electronics related work experience is an added advantage
  • Possessing a Class 3 driving license is an added advantage
Skills
  • Able to use general tools and equipment.
  • Able to read and write in English proficiently.
  • Possess basic MS Office skills
  • Able to communicate effectively and work in a team environment.
  • Able to work independently
