Job summary

SMRT Corporation Ltd is seeking an Assistant Engineer, Train Maintenance to lead a small team of Technical Officers in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on SMRT Rolling Stock. The role focuses on safety, quality, and adherence to work instructions while delivering maintenance within established timelines.

  • Diploma in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Preferably minimum 4 years in relevant experience leading maintenance teams and troubleshooting electro-mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Technical Officers to perform PM/CM on EMUs and components.
  • Ensure PM/CM work follows instructions, safety, and quality standards.
  • Plan and coordinate tasks within the team and with other groups.
  • Ensure team qualifications and authorisations for tasks.
  • Attend required skills courses to perform maintenance.
  • Ensure safety, welfare and discipline of the team.
  • Maintain team equipment/tools and working environment.
  • Support maintenance activities (shunter, crane, forklift) as needed.
  • Work on a shift roster per MOM guidelines.
  • Undertake other tasks incidental or ancillary as needed.

Assistant Engineer, Train Maintenance
Job Purpose
  • Lead a team of Technical Officers (TO) to carry out scheduled Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Corrective Maintenance (CM) together on EMUs/Component/Equipment as assigned by managers.
  • Ensure his team comply all PM & CM works and related tasks with approved work instructions, quality procedures, safety and operational procedures, and good maintenance standards.
  • Plan and coordinate within his team and other teams to complete the assigned maintenance tasks within the established standard time.
  • Ensure his team has the necessary qualifications and authorization to carry out daily tasks and any assigned tasks by managers.
  • Attend the necessary skills courses to be able to carry out the maintenance and assigned tasks.
  • Responsible for the safety, welfare and discipline of his team
  • Responsible for the upkeep of his team equipment/tools and working environment.
Responsibilities
  • Able to participate and complete the technical Skills training provided by SMRT and achieve the necessary qualification to perform maintenance work on SMRT Rolling Stock.
  • Responsible for his team’s quality and standards of the PM/CM works within the established standards time and be competent to carry out preventive and corrective maintenance tasks on SMRT Rolling Stock within the established standard times and in accordance to the Work Instructions and related procedures, as assigned by managers.
  • Exercise safety always; in accordance to established Safety procedures. Responsible for the safety of self and all co-workers, inclusive of contractors.
  • Demonstrate sufficient ability in diagnostic and troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems.
  • Able to forecast and plan his team and resources to complete maintenance tasks and assigned tasks timely.
  • Conduct regular engagement sessions with his team to understand his TOs better and to feedback on their performance.
  • Perform supporting maintenance activities such as Maintenance Train Shunter, overhead crane operator, forklift driver, etc, as authorized and required by the manager.
  • Perform housekeeping and cleaning tasks at the workplace; to ensure workplace order and hygiene.
  • Able to work on a shift roster system in accordance with the MOM guidelines and the Collective Agreement.
  • Undertake any other tasks or functions that are incidental or ancillary to the performance of the works assigned; e.g. attend to emergency mainline incident, as assigned by manager

To carry out the Preventive and Corrective Maintenance Works safely, the Assistant Engineer must:

  • Not be sensitive or allergic to Rolling Stock Materials, POLs (Petrol, Oils and lubricants) and dust involved in the conduct of the work. Note that standard PPE of safety shoes, gloves, masks and hearing protection will be provided.
  • Able to work at height (WAH) on the train roof, while donning the necessary WAH safety equipment.
  • Fit and able to climb staircases and ladders, stand for sufficient duration (4 hours) to accomplish the required maintenance works.
  • Lift tools, equipment or spares of up to 10kg for men and 7kg for women.
  • Able to work underframe of EMU for sufficient duration (4 hours) which may require frequent squatting and bending
  • Able to adapt to working in a shift system without affecting his concentration at work.
Qualifications & Work Experience
  • Diploma in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Preferably minimum 4 years in relevant experience leading maintenance teams and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical equipment.
