Job summary

VDL Enabling Technologies Group (Singapore) PTE. LTD. is seeking a skilled tooling engineer to assist the project lead in planning, designing, and developing assembly tooling solutions.

The role focuses on cost control, lead times, and meeting quality and safety targets. You will create tooling designs from concept to completion, select materials, and define manufacturing processes while sourcing materials and services at competitive prices.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Precision Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in tooling-related work, preferably with hands-on precision machining.
• Ability to communicate clearly to different stakeholders.
• Proficient in mechanical measurement.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist lead in project plans from conceptual design to align with requirements and specifications.
• Estimate project costs and lead time for tooling development and upgrades.
• Create tooling designs from concept to completion, including material selection and detailed drawings.
• Develop CNC machining processes, including tool selection, fixture design, and machining strategies.
• Record all estimated costs for regular review and cost control.
• Participate in continual improvement initiatives and own development plans.

Job description

Responsible for assisting project lead in planning, designing, and developing assembly tooling solutions, ensuring alignment with requirements and specifications while controlling costs and lead times. He/She creates tooling designs from concept to completion, including material selection and detailed engineering drawings, defining manufacturing processes, and sourcing materials and services at competitive prices to meet targets for quality, lead time, budget, and safety. Additionally, he/she validates and tests tooling, identifies improvement opportunities, and executes and reports on improvement plans to continually enhance processes and tooling solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Assist lead in project plans with conceptual design to ensure alignment with requirement and design specifications.


• Support lead in the estimation of project costs and lead time for tooling development, maintenance, and upgrades to ensure effective cost control of the project.


• Create tooling designs from concept to completion, material selection, detailed engineering, drawings, defining manufacturing processes and sourcing materials and services at competitive prices to meet targets for quality, lead time, budget and safety.


• Participate in any initiative on continual improvement and take accountability for own development plan.


• Develop and implement CNC machining processes, including tool selection, fixture design, and machining strategies.


• Assist lead in collating and recording all estimated costs in preparation for regular review.


• Participate in any initiative on continual improvement and take accountability for own development plan.

Requirements:

• Diploma in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Precision Engineering or related engineering field.


• Minimum 3 years' experience in tooling related work, preferably with Hands-on Precision Machining experience.
