Job summary

Activate Interactive Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based technology consultancy, is seeking a Backend Engineer for a 12-month fixed-term contract to design and operate secure backend services enabling AI, ML, and generative AI solutions for government systems.

You will collaborate with product, policy, cybersecurity, DevOps, and platform teams to translate operational needs into production-ready systems, using Python and modern AI tooling to deliver reliable, scalable backend capabilities.

Qualifications

Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related IT field.
Hands-on backend services, APIs, or components supporting AI-enabled gov digital services.
Strong Python programming with API development, testing, and AI/ML libraries/frameworks.
Experience with LLMs, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, or AI agent workflows.
Knowledge of responsible AI, governance, data protection, security, privacy, and risk management for government context.
Experience with cloud environments such as AWS, GCC, or other approved enterprise cloud platforms.
Familiarity with CI/CD, DevSecOps, version control, monitoring, logging, and production support processes.

Responsibilities

Design, build, deploy, and operate secure backend services for AI, ML, and gov digital services.
Translate business, policy, and operational needs into designs, specs and implementation plans.
Develop backend services for model pipelines, prompt workflows, retrieval-augmented generation, APIs and integrations.
Conduct model and solution testing for accuracy, reliability, safety, bias and fitness-for-purpose.
Support responsible AI controls including guardrails, oversight, audit logs, access controls, explainability.
Collaborate with DevOps, cybersecurity, data and platform teams to deploy securely on gov environments (GCC).
Monitor deployed solutions for model drift, hallucination risks, performance, and security concerns.
Assist in risk reviews, security compliance, vulnerability assessments, remediation tracking, auditing documentation.
Provide technical support across dev/UAT/staging/production environments.
