Job summary

Cobolt AB in Stockholm, Sweden, part of HÜBNER Photonics, is seeking a Test Engineer to join the R&D team. You will work closely with electronics, software, mechanical engineering, and optics to test laser prototypes throughout development.

You will plan and document qualification programs, develop test methods, and analyze results, contributing to CE and electrical safety compliance and EMC considerations.

Qualifications

• A BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
• Experience with testing, verification, characterization, or qualification of technical products.
• Experience with measurement equipment and test methods, including optical metrology, and programming skills in LabVIEW and/or Python for test automation and data analysis.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret test data and draw conclusions.
• Good written and spoken Swedish and English.

• Perform testing, characterization, and verification of laser prototypes throughout the product development process.
• Plan, execute, and document technical qualification programs, including defining test methods and analyzing results.
• Develop and improve test methods, procedures, and equipment to evaluate product performance and reliability.
• Analyze test data, identify deviations and risks, and communicate findings and recommendations to the team.
• Support CE and CDRH marking activities, including laser safety, electrical safety, EMC, and RoHS2 requirements.

HÜBNER Photonics is expanding its R&D organization and is looking for a motivated Test Engineer to join the R&D team at Cobolt AB in Stockholm, Sweden. As part of HÜBNER Photonics, Cobolt develops, manufactures, and supplies high-performance lasers and laser systems for demanding applications, including life sciences, AR/VR, quantum technologies, and semiconductor manufacturing. Our products are used by system suppliers and leading research institutes worldwide and are recognized for their exceptional quality and reliability.

About the role

As a Test Engineer, you will work closely with colleagues in electronics, software, mechanical engineering, and optics. You will play an important role in the development and qualification program of our laser products. You will be involved throughout the development process with various tests of different laser prototypes. This is an opportunity to work hands‑on with advanced laser technology in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. You will also have the opportunity to broaden your expertise in regulatory and safety requirements, gaining hands‑on experience with CE and CDRH marking, laser safety, electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and RoHS2.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform testing, characterization, and verification of laser prototypes throughout the product development process.
• Plan, execute, and document technical qualification programs, including defining test methods, analyzing results, and supporting issue resolution.
• Develop and improve test methods, procedures, and equipment to evaluate product performance and reliability.
• Analyze test data, identify deviations and risks, and communicate findings and recommendations to the development team.
• Support CE and CDRH marking activities, including requirements related to laser safety, electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and RoHS2.

Qualifications

We believe you are a meticulous and well‑organized engineer who enjoys hands‑on technical work and working in a multidisciplinary team. You communicate effectively, take initiative, and approach tasks in a structured and methodical way. We also expect you to have:

• A BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
• Experience with testing, verification, characterization, or qualification of technical products, preferably in a product development environment.
• Experience with measurement equipment and test methods, including optical metrology, and programming skills in LabVIEW and/or Python for test automation and data analysis.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret test data, identify deviations, and draw clear conclusions.
• Good technical documentation skills and excellent written and spoken Swedish and English.
