Malmö Opera is seeking a Studienleiter/Chefsrepetitör to guide and maintain the artistic quality of our company. Job description

Malmö Opera is the heart and voice of music drama in Southern Sweden. The house opened in 1944 and is situated in the centre of the Öresund region, comprising Southern Sweden and Eastern Denmark, only 25 minutes by train from Copenhagen. The main auditorium seats 1,500, and the stage is one of the largest in Northern Europe. Malmö Opera performs a wide variety of repertoire, including new operatic works and musicians. Around 275 permanent employees and 500–700 freelance employees are engaged throughout a typical season, during which Malmö Opera presents approximately 300 performances both in the opera house and on tour throughout the region of Skåne. As Studienleiter/Chefsrepetitör, you hold a senior position within our music team and play an important role in guiding and maintaining the artistic quality of the company. You are a key person in the preparation and delivery of our productions.

You will plan and coordinate the work of our experienced house répétiteurs and, in each production, be responsible for supporting our casts through coaching. Alongside playing for operatic productions, the position includes coaching soloists, both permanent singers and guest artists, in the operatic repertoire.

You will also contribute to the development and performance health of our successful Malmö Opera Chorus by regularly coaching members of the chorus.

In addition to rehearsal work and vocal coaching, you will be responsible for our important collaboration with the Malmö Opera Academy, where our Master’s degree programme for opera singers and répétiteurs is conducted in collaboration with the Malmö Academy of Music at Lund University.

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced répétiteur and vocal coach. You will have broad experience of playing the standard operatic repertoire in a professional context, a deep understanding and knowledge of vocal technique, and proven experience as a vocal coach.

The position places high demands on flexibility, responsibility and organisational skills. You have very good communication skills and are straightforward and clear in your leadership and decision‑making.

We are looking for someone who has:

• a relevant artistic degree
• performance experience as a collaborative pianist in general, for example in chamber music and vocal recitals
• documented experience of vocal coaching at a professional artistic level
• good language skills in the core operatic languages
• experience as a conductor, which is advantageous
• proficiency in English. Knowledge of Swedish is advantageous but not required.

Employment conditions

The position is full‑time, 100%, and is a fixed‑term three‑year contract with the possibility of extension. The starting date is 1 January 2027, or by mutual agreement.
