Job description

Overview

This position is for a Staff Technical Program Manager on IonQ’s Quantum Applications team, based in Gothenburg, Sweden or Toronto, Canada. The role involves leading a team of application scientists to deliver quantum computing solutions for advanced healthcare and life sciences customers, working closely with partners to develop and commercialize innovative quantum applications.

Responsibilities
  • Drive efficient end-to-end delivery of novel quantum HCLS applications built for IonQ quantum computers.
  • Lead the transition of technology and capabilities from R&D to commercialization, defining and measuring success metrics.
  • Create and manage timelines, documentation, milestones and deliverables, ensuring dependencies and cross‑functional resources are aligned.
  • Conduct risk analysis and develop mitigation plans to ensure successful project delivery, proactively addressing emerging risks.
  • Assume technical ownership when necessary, driving problem‑solving efforts.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, aligning technical and non‑technical perspectives.
  • Maintain operational rigor, reducing waste while preserving innovation pace.
  • Collaborate with contracting, legal, finance and sales teams to develop proposals, technical volumes and financial reports, ensuring regulatory, fiscal and IP compliance.
  • Drive quality control and DevOps processes including CI/CD, version control, code review and automated testing.
  • Accommodate occasional travel and flexible work hours to support customers across time zones.
You'd be a good fit with
  • B.S. in physics, mathematics, engineering, computer science or another technical domain; or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with clients to co‑develop advanced computational modeling solutions.
  • Demonstrated delivery of complex innovative projects with a significant R&D component.
  • Experience in information technology or R&D in the HCLS domain.
  • Experience leading complex projects using tools such as GitHub, Jira, Smartsheet, etc.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with ability to lead through influence without formal authority.
  • Strong commitment to customer advocacy and engagement.
  • Ability to work effectively with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
You'd be a great fit with
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in physics, mathematics, engineering, computer science or another technical domain; or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of quantum computing, quantum circuits and quantum software tools such as Qiskit, Cirq, PennyLane.
  • Experience developing cloud and high‑performance computing applications.
  • Experience transitioning software prototypes to commercial products.
  • Subject matter expertise in the HCLS domain.
Location

Onsite in Gothenburg, Sweden, or Toronto, Canada.

Travel

Approximately 10% domestic and international travel, focused on visiting customers and partners.

Compensation

Compensation will vary based on education, qualifications, experience, office location and market calibration. Post‑public salary figures may change with new market data.
