About the Telia Play streaming technology unit

The Telia Play unit brings together around 120 engineers, developers and product professionals across Stockholm, Gothenburg and Vilnius. We build and operate a modern streaming platform on AWS Cloud, designed for:

• High availability across multiple markets
• Seamless playback across TV, mobile and web
• Personalization and recommendations at scale
• Secure integrations with 40+ content providers
• Reliable live streaming of sports and events

Our platform must handle traffic spikes during major live broadcasts — without compromising performance. That’s the challenge and the opportunity.

How we build streaming video platform experiences at scale

Our work is organized into five core technology verticals.

We create seamless customer journeys, authentication flows, upsell capabilities and business system integrations (BSS). We integrate and enrich metadata from more than 40 content providers, ensuring accurate search, categorization and discovery.

Video streaming

We manage high-quality transcoding, packaging and reliable playback across mobile, web, Smart TV and set‑top boxes.

Live & events

We power live TV, sports broadcasts and Network Personal Video Recording (NPVR) — with high resilience and minimal latency.

We build search, recommendations, personalization and customer profiling to make content discovery effortless.

Building better content streaming — together

Innovation at Telia Play is part of everyday teamwork, not a side initiative. We collaborate across teams using AI tools like Github Copilot to speed up development, improve code quality and focus on solving meaningful problems together. Twice a year, the entire unit comes together for hackathons to explore new technologies, build prototypes and turn ideas into real product improvements, while monthly Incubator Days give space for experimentation, pair and mob programming, and continuous learning across teams.
