Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Sweden is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to design, engineer and deliver climate systems for HVDC projects worldwide, in both onshore and offshore settings. You will perform technical design calculations, review drawings and specifications, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration within HVDC plant designs.

You will support tendering, detailed engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning, ensuring quality and timely execution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, energy systems or related field.
• Experience with climate systems or HVAC equipment such as chillers and air handling units.
• Solid understanding of psychrometric charts, heat transfer, flow diagrams and control systems.
• Experience on large-scale engineering projects is advantageous.
• Proficient in English; Swedish is a plus.

The opportunity

We are expanding and looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our growing global team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, engineering, and delivery of climate systems within HVDC projects, ensuring the reliable operation of HVDC stations around the world, from deserts to arctic regions, both onshore and offshore.

This role is based in Ludvika or Västerås, Sweden.

How You’ll Make An Impact

• Perform the technical design and calculations of climate systems for HVDC converter stations, including reviewing designs, drawings, documentation, and technical specifications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure effective integration of climate systems within overall HVDC plant designs.
• Support all project phases—from tendering and conceptual design to detailed engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning—ensuring quality and timely execution.
• Conduct design reviews to ensure compliance with customer requirements, ASHRAE standards, and internal guidelines.
• Assist with testing, verification, and performance validation during commissioning, including site inspections and on-site support.
• Translate customer needs into reliable and compliant climate system solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts and mentor junior engineers to support technical development within the team.

Your background

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field with a focus on heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
• Proven expertise in climate systems or HVAC equipment such as chillers, dehumidifiers, air handling units, and integrated monitoring and control sensors.
• Solid understanding of psychrometric charts, heat transfer (active/passive), flow diagrams, and control systems.
• Experience working on large-scale engineering projects is an advantage.
• You should ideally like working in a multicultural environment and be able to express yourself written and spoken in English. Swedish is considered an advantage.
