Location: Sweden (Projects across the Nordics & Europe; occasional visits to Finnish HQ)

Role Context

Join one of the Nordics' most established technical services and life-cycle solutions providers, delivering mission-critical data centre projects across Sweden and Europe. The Senior Planning Engineer will be responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and reporting of integrated project schedules across large-scale construction projects, with a primary focus on Data Centre developments. Working closely with Project Directors, Project Managers, Construction Managers, Commercial Teams, and Client Representatives, you will ensure robust planning and scheduling processes are in place to support successful project delivery.

This role will be instrumental in the planning and control of complex engineering and construction activities from pre-construction through commissioning and handover. You will provide programme leadership, identify and manage schedule risks, support project recovery initiatives, and ensure all project milestones are achieved in accordance with contractual and client requirements.

The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in Primavera P6 and a thorough understanding of construction sequencing, project controls, and programme management within large-scale construction environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and manage detailed project schedules using Primavera P6.
  • Establish project baselines covering engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover activities.
  • Create and maintain Level 3 and Level 4 programmes in accordance with project requirements.
  • Monitor progress against baseline schedules and contractual milestones.
  • Produce weekly and monthly programme reports for project teams, management, and clients.
  • Conduct critical path analysis and identify programme risks, delays, and opportunities.
  • Develop mitigation, acceleration, and recovery plans to maintain project objectives.
  • Support project teams in establishing realistic construction sequences and work plans.
  • Lead programme review meetings and planning workshops with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to support extension of time claims and programme-related contractual matters.
  • Review subcontractor schedules and ensure alignment with the master project programme.
  • Provide progress measurement, earned value analysis, and schedule performance reporting.
  • Prepare short-term look-ahead programmes to support site execution activities.
  • Identify resource constraints and support resource planning activities.
  • Track engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning progress.
  • Support tender and pre-construction teams with programme development and planning strategies.
  • Implement planning standards, procedures, and best practices across projects.
  • Work closely with project leadership teams to ensure successful project execution and delivery.
  • Support project teams through all phases of the project lifecycle, including design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and final handover.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience as a Planning Engineer or Senior Planning Engineer within the construction, engineering, MEP, industrial, or building services sectors.
  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 is essential.
  • Strong understanding of project controls, planning methodologies, and programme management principles.
  • Experience developing and managing complex construction schedules throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Excellent knowledge of Critical Path Methodology (CPM), programme logic, resource loading, and schedule analysis.
  • Experience producing recovery programmes, acceleration plans, and delay analysis.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, procurement activities, and commissioning requirements.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical installation activities and construction methodologies.
  • Experience working within fast-track construction environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate programme status, risks, and recovery strategies to project teams and senior management.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary and multinational project environments.
  • Understanding of contractual obligations and programme-related contract administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and associated reporting tools.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Controls, or a related discipline.
  • Professional planning or project controls certification would be advantageous.
  • Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience working on projects across the Nordics or wider European market would be beneficial.
  • Previous experience on Data Centre or Mission Critical projects.
  • Knowledge of BIM-enabled planning and 4D scheduling methodologies.
  • Experience using Power BI or other programme performance reporting tools.
  • Understanding of FIDIC, NEC, or equivalent construction contracts.
  • Membership of a recognised professional body such as AACE, PMI, APM, or similar.
