Job summary

emagine is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to join its distributed European team, working alongside engineers, research scientists and product teams to build and scale our voice provider platform. You will design and deliver robust backend services that bring speech generation technology into production.

You should be able to drive technical decisions, own backend architecture and delivery, and thrive in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Experience writing distributed, high-volume Java services for production
• Strong understanding of data structures/algorithms and practical design
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to explain complex ideas
• Comfortable in environments that encourage experimentation and fast iteration
• Commitment to reliability, performance and quality in production code
• Experience with ML-powered services or speech tech is a plus

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deliver robust, scalable backend systems and APIs for voice generation services
• Build and evolve backend infrastructure to support enterprise-grade capabilities
• Collaborate with engineers, researchers, product owners, and designers to prototype and productionize AI and speech technologies
• Improve scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency of backend services
• Write clean, well-documented code and follow best practices
• Contribute to software development standards and practices
• Be part of the backend community with a voice in architectural decisions
